Bengaluru: Post-election shock - electricity tariff hike expected

Bengaluru, May 14: Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission, which was expected to give its decision on proposals mooted by various electric supply companies in the state to hike electricity tariff on April 1, had postponed its announcement in view of the election code of conduct. As the election is over now, it is likely announce its decision to hike the tariff by 50 to 65 paisa per unit on Monday, May 14.

The electricity supply companies had demanded for increase by 83 paisa to Rs 1.50 per unit and also steep hike in the fixed charge. The tariff now announced will be effective from April 1 this year, it is gathered. Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company has been strongly arguing for sizable hike on power tariff specifically for electricity users in the city limits.
