Mumbai: Poet Subraya Chokkadi selected for Gurunarayan award

Mumbai, May 10: Veteran poet, critic and teacher Subraya Chokkadi is selected for Gurunarayana literary award for 2018, sponsored by M B Kukyan and presented by Billavara Association. The award consists of Rs 25,000 cash, award panel and certificate. The decision was taken by the committee of litterateurs Dr Sunitha Shetty and V G Nayak.

The award will be presented considering the contribution by Subraya Chokkadi to Kannada literature and education. He hails from undivided Dakshina Kannada district and has worked as teacher for 39 years. He has written poems, story books and has edited literary works. His self created songs are recorded in 20 CDs. He will be felicitated by Sahitya Parishat academy, Alvas Nudisiri and Kantavara Kannada sangha.

The award will be presented to him at a programme scheduled at Billava Bhavan here on May 26. Award sponsor, veteran author M B Kukyan will be present at the programme which will be chaired by Billavara Association president Nithyananda D Kotian and inaugurated by Billavara Mahamandala president Jaya C Suvarna.

Gurunarayana night school old students will present a dance programme and Virar local members will perform a Tulu drama 'Kudonji Kathe.'
