Bengaluru: No ticket - Yeddy's son gets sop from BJP, made Yuva Morcha secretary

Bengaluru, Apr 24: BJP state president and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa's son B Y Vijayendra will not contest the upcoming election as he was not given ticket from Varuna or elsewhere. But he has been offered a plum post as general secretary of state Yuva Morcha. This can keep father-son duo happy at least for some months.

On Monday, April 23, angry BJP workers shouted slogans against party chief Amit Shah and broke furniture at a hotel in protest as Yeddyurappa’s son was not named as the BJP candidate in Varuna near Mysuru. Chief Minister Siddaramaih’s son Dr Yathindra is contesting from Varuna on Congress ticket.

The protesting workers had given the deadline of one day threatening mass resignation if the BJP did not name Vijayendra for Varuna. But BJP has done the ‘damage control’ act by offering Vijayendra a state level post.

"Congratulations to BY Vijayendra on his appointment as State General Secretary, Yuva Morcha. His addition will greatly boost the party cadre and strengthen our organisation in the Old Mysuru region," the party announced in a statement. BJP has also asked Vijayendra to campaign extensively in the Old Mysuru region.

For weeks, B Y Vijayendra had camped in Varuna and even started campaigning, expecting to be pitted against Dr Yathindra.

Meanwhile, the BJP has given ticket to Totadappa Basavraju to contest from Varuna constituency against chief minister's son Dr Yathindra.

Varuna, a rural constituency, is represented currently by Siddaramaiah.
