Soldier from Vijayapura meets watery grave as army vehicle falls into river

Vijayapura, Apr 24: Two army personnel including a jawan from Vijayapura died after an army vehicle fell into the river in Guwahati in Assam on April 22 late night.

Parasurama Khyaatannavara(32) from Ronihala village in Bagewadi taluk is the deceased. He was serving the army for the last 14 years. He had been to his native on February 9 for the house warming ceremony and returned on February 11.

The information regarding the demise was given to the family by Major Kariyappa.

The mishap occurred at Brahmaputra River on the borders of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam when the vehicle carrying 18 personnel from Madras Regiment Territorial Army based at Chapakhowa, Sadiya in Assam's Tinsukia district was on counter-insurgency operations.

The vehicle skidded and fell into the river. While 15 personnel were rescued, four of the injured soldiers among them were shifted to the Chapakhowa First Referral Unit for treatment.
