Mangaluru: Rotary Vandana Awards presented to popular artistes Devdas Kapikad, Naveen Padil

Mangaluru, Apr 22: Eminent Tulu theatre stalwarts and popular cine artists Devdas Kapikad and Naveen Padil were conferred with the Rotary annual state level prestigious ‘Vandana Award’ at a function held on Saturday, April 21 at Hotel Kudla. The award was conferred on them in recognition of their exemplary achievement and in appreciation of their invaluable contributions, in the field of Tulu, art and culture. The award is jointly instituted by Rotary Club of Mangalore Central and Rotaract Club of Mangalore City.

Mangaluru City Corporation mayor Bhaskar Moily graced the occasion as chief guest and presented the awards to the achievers and congratulated them. In his address, he advised to promote coastal regions, traditional Tulu language, art and culture and lauded the community services of Rotary Club.



 

Chairman of the award selection committee Dr Devdas Rai in his introductory address revealed that the annual Vandana Award is conferred on achievers and it is a part of clubs vocational service project. He congratulated Devdas Kapikad and Naveen D Padil on their unique achievements in the field of entertainment. Rajgopal Rai delivered the felicitation address.

Responding to the felicitations the awardees expressed their gratitude to the Rotary Club and said that they deemed it as a privilege and honour to accept the awards, which is very valuable among the awards they have won.

President Raymond D’Cunha presided over the function. District Rotaract representative Jackson Saldanha released the weekly club news bulletin ‘Centor’, secretary Prakashchandra presented the report, Rotaract president Pavithra Acharya welcomed, and Sharath Kumar rendered the vote of thanks.
