Bengaluru, Apr 22: A famous astrologer, who is also known for his flashy television programmes, was arrested on Saturday, April 21, for allegedly raping a female disciple multiple times and conning her out of Rs 5O lac.
Dinesh Guruji (43) is the person accused.
Dinesh Guruji, who calls himself a ‘World-class micro-astrologer’, runs an astrology centre on Pipeline Road, Gangammanagudi here. He runs a website and conducts programmes on television channels on regular basis.
Police arrested him after the 28-year-old woman filed a complaint of rape and cheating.
In the complaint, the woman said that after she was impressed with Guruji's television programmes, she approached him last year to teach her astrology. He agreed to help her and promised a degree in astrology from one of the recognized institutes.
During the classes, Guruji often talked about tantric sex. He took her to trance and started sexually exploiting her. All these sessions took place only when Guruji's wife was not at home. The sexual assaults happened over several months. The woman says he was hopeful that one day she would get the ‘fortune’ Guruji had promised.
Subsequently, Guruji asked her to lend him money and promised to return it soon. Trusting him, she convinced her parents to help him and loaned him Rs 50 lac. The family had earned the money after selling a residential plot and planned to invest it elsewhere.
The woman complainant told the police that she decided to ‘expose’ the astrologer after finding out that he had sexually assaulted and cheated many women like her.
The complaint was lodged on Friday.
