Karkala: Gopal Bhandary files nomination, says pained by opposition within Cong

Karkala, Apr 20: Former MLA, Gopal Bhandary, filed his nomination papers as Congress candidate for the local constituency on Friday April 20.

Speaking at a press meet at the party office on Thursday April 19, Bhandary said that he can have only ideological differences with others, and not personal enmity. "I do not believe in brightening my political career by harming someone else's. It is regrettable that politics here is witnessing things that are beyond my imagination," he lamented.

Bhandary said that he had risen in stature during the last four decades from the grassroots level in the party and that he was not born in a rich family. He expressed gratitude to Veerappa Moily and voters for showing warmth and support for him so far.

"Although I have been involved in social service, the recent developments in the party have pained me," he disclosed. He also said that party leaders will try to quell the dissent in the party. He said that this would be his last election and exuded confidence of becoming victorious and achieving development and harmony in the constituency.

He accused BJP MLA, V Sunil Kumar, of indulging in election gimmick last time by creating fear of tiger project and Kasturirangan report implementation among the voters. Bhandary shed tears recollecting an effort to burn his effigy to show resentment at his selection for the assembly constituency.

Block Congress president, Sudhakar Kotian, AICC member, Amrith Shenoy, Ravishnakar Sherigar, and others were present.

Abhayachandra Jain: Abhayachandra Jain handed over his nomination papers as Congress candidate from Moodbidri constituency at the election office at 11.30 am on Thursday April 19. He was accompanied by Mulky block Congress president, Dhananjay Aminmattu, Moodbidri block Congress president, Valerian Sequeira, Moodbidri block Congress general secretary, Ratnakar C Moily etc.

Electoral officer, Prasanna V, received the nomination papers.

Before filing the nomination, Jain addressed Congress workers ar Swarna Mandir Moodbidri. He said that Congress is the party of the poor and the destitute and urged people to keep BJP, which cheats people, away from power. Hailing Siddaramaiah as the person who does what he says, he felt nowhere else such a chief minster can be seen.

President of district youth Congress Committee, Mithun Rai, who was an aspirant for ticket from here and whose candidature was actively supported by Jain, was conspicuous by his absence. MLA, Ivan D'Souza, who also was desirous of getting party ticket from here, was absent.

Former MLA, Vijay Kumar Shetty, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee member, Sampat Samrajya, zilla panchayat standing committee chairman, Sahul Hameed, members, Dharanendra Kumar, Pratibha Kulai, district women wing president, Shalent Pinto, and others were present.


Bengaluru: Candidates indulge in show of strength when filing nomination papers

Former MLA, M Krishnappa,submitted nomination papers as BJP candidate from the city (south) assembly constituency here on Thursday April 19. He offered puja at Lord Anjaneya temple at Uttarahalli and walked along with party leaders and supporters accompanied a huge procession for sometime. He was also accompanied by his family members. City (south) Congress president, Ramesh, and cine actor, Tara, were with him.

MLA Byrathi Basavaraj, came in a procession to file nomination papers from K R Pura assembly constituency here. Thousands of his supporters accompanied him. His fans and supporters from various places came with percussion and wind instruments and gathered in front of BBMP office there. This created traffic jam up to four km, putting road users into lot of problems.

When BJP MLA from Yalahanka, S R Vishwanath, filed nomination papers on Thursday, over 5,000 of his supporters came together. Here too many came with different musical instruments and danced to musical tunes. As thousands of people came together at NES Circle, traffic jam happened on Doddaballapur road for about half an hour, and traffic police had a tough time controlling the traffic.

However, tight security was in place and prohibitory orders were strictly enforced for a radius of 150 metres from the election office. Only five persons were allowed to enter inside. Independent candidate, L S Krishnamurthy, too filed his nomination papers here on Thursday.

    Gopal Bhandary is not humble or innocent as he pretend, he is hobnobbing with BJP leaders and Bunts... That is the reason Billava's and OBC does not vote for him.. You can trust Sunil not Bhandary.

    Bhandary is an simple and honest politician in Karkala BT cannot win against Sunil Kumar. same goes with Uday kumar who has quit money power. CONG MUKT K'ta VERY SOON.

    Mr.Bhandary is from
    minority caste and economically back word.These type of castes needed to be given some reservation.. Majority of casts and religions always has the advantage ..
