Mangaluru: No cash shortage in ATMs, confirm local bank officials

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 19: Bank customers in general are overwhelmed by the reports appearing in the media about ATMs in leading cities across the country experiencing shortage of cash. However a survey conducted across the twin-districts found that there is no cause for concern and the ATMs here do have cash. Top bank officials confirmed that there is no need to worry.

Raghava Yajamanya, lead bank manager for Dakshina Kannada district, said that the lead bank, which happens to be Syndicate Bank, has not received any complaint about shortage of cash in any of the ATMs.

State Bank of India sources said that they had received orders from the corporate office to see that ATMs do not go empty and to replenish cash into them even on Wednesday, although it was a holiday. None of the bank's ATMs had gone empty, they said.

Corporation bank deputy general manager, Sridhar, said that cash shortage was never experienced in the city although some pockets in north India had faced cash shortage. The bank hands over enough cash to handle cash needed on holidays in advance to agencies, Corporation Bank officials said.

Vijaya Bank too confirmed that they are not facing any cash shortage. Karnataka Bank chief executive officer and managing director, M S Mahabaleshwara, said that it is normal for ten to twenty percent of ATMs at the national level to undergo cash shortage on account of volatility in demand and supply situations.

Security personnel at the ATMs in the city confirmed that they have not experienced cash shortage in ATMs. No long queues were witnessed in front of any of the ATMs here.
