Bengaluru: Congress dissidence on ticket - Rai, Oscar to handle Karkala, Moodbidri issues

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Apr 19: Ruling Congress has been facing heat of the dissidence from candidates who have failed to get party ticket for the assembly election. The revolt is quite strong in about 35 constituencies, while in some constituencies, there is pressure on the party leadership to change the candidate already chosen and issue B form to others.

Taking note of the seriousness of the dissidence, national leadership of Congress party has entrusted the task of handling the revolt to party leaders including chief minister, Siddaramaiah. Reportedly, national president of the party, Rahul Gandhi, directly contacted some of the disgruntled leaders and spoke to them.

Still, several aspirants have been trying to bag tickets by putting pressure on the state and national leaders of the party while some more are preparing to enter election as rebel candidates, while there are some who are joining other parties.

Ramanath Rai & Oscar Fernandes

Supporters of Uday Kumar Shetty Muniyal, angered by the party's action in ignoring their leader, have been staging protests in Karkala. Ministers, Ramanath Rai and Mahadevappa, have been given the responsibility of mediating with the leaders and defusing the situation.

Supporters of district youth Congress president, Mithun Rai, had protested against the leadership's decision not to allot ticket to him. Rajya Sabha member, Oscar Fernandes, and minister, Ramalinga Reddy, have been given the onus of pacifying the detractors by holding talks with them.

The Congress leadership, which was not expecting backlash on such a large scale, is now worried about the ill affect the dissidence will have on the poll result. Therefore, the leadership has asked chief minister, Siddaramaiah, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, Dr G Parameshwar, leader of Congress parliamentary party in Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, minister, D K Shivakumar, and other leaders, to dissuade the rebels from working against the interests of the party. They have also been asked to put in efforts to convince those who have joined other parties to come back. The chief minister and working president of KPCC, Dinesh Gundu Rao, will be trying to appease Nadappa Muthappa from Madikeri, it is learnt.

Personal interest of state Congress leaders should not be above the interest of the party. They should keep aside the dissident and work for the winnability of candidate in each seat.

Though 'dynasty' politics is common to all parties now in India with BJP scoring more than any other party.

It is going to be tough fight this time for Congress in Karnataka. There are already some small parties BJP has persuaded to contest against Congress in some seats were the winning margin is very narrow.
Apart from this JD(S) and BJP are already working together in secret pact to throw the Congress out of power in return for Mr. Kumaraswamy as Chief Minister with BJP support.

For Congress internal dissident is biggest threat than the opposition party in Karnataka.
In the meanwhile Congress need to be more aggressive in campaign against BJP asking question and educating voters on its failures in delivering developments and corruption like Nirav Modi.

So far BJP seems to BJP seems to be swayed Congress from development to Hindutva. Amit Shah has already did the preparatory ground for communal politics. Now with the arrival CM Yogi and PM Modi it will be intensified in the coming days.

Most of the congress supporters from all communities of DK wants Mithun Rai(over Abhaychandra Jain & Ivan D’Souza) from Moodbidri and Uday Kumar Shetty (over Gopal Bhandary) from Karkala to contest the election because they are young and have got strong supporters who can give a tough fight to opponents and win the election. And moreover as it is said this old selfish man Moily must be thrown out from the party or not to be allowed in state politics who has become a liability and spoiling the winning chances. When both the nominated candidates does not have any hope to win the election, then it is better RG or Siddharamaiah must decide and change their decision and give ticket to these two young candidates. Now it is high time for Rahul Gandhi to ask old members to retire from active politics and elevate young blood into party so that he can build up a strong image infront of the voters. We strongly suggest RG and Siddhu take immediate action to give tickets to Mithun Rai and Uday Kumar Shetty who are winning horses. We request Abhaychandra Jain & Gopal Bhandary to make way to Mithun Rai & Uday Shetty to contest and win the election.

Oscar or rai are not useful in this case because both are unconnected here. Its much better to field mithun rai as moodabidri candidate and udaya kumar shetty in karkala if congress want to win these seats. . Allow youths to lead political progress rather than the retired pension benificiaries.

    - There should be a limit for the number of times a person can become MLA,
Maximum 2 or 3 terms. Then we can accomodate more young and energetic persons like Mithun and Uday Kumar instead of Abhayachandra or Ramanath Rai.
    - Second option is to increase the number of assembly seats . As the population increases we should increase the seats by creating new assembly constituencies, just like creating new districts and taluks.
    - If there is a minimum educational qualification as requirement to contest an election we will have more seats available.
