Mangaluru, Apr 18: Common Entrance Test (CET), which decides eligibility of candidates seeking entry into medical, engineering and other professional courses, is being held in the state on Wednesday April 18 and Thursday April 19.

CET is being conducted in 26 centres spread across Dakshina Kannada district. A total of 14,448 students have opted to take this examination. These 26 centres are spread over the city, Puttur, Moodbidri, and Ujire. Last year, the number of CET centres stood at 25 and this time, a new centre has been added by way of Ramakrishna College near Bunts Hostel in the city.

The city has 13 centres in which 6,336 students are appearing for this test. Puttur has 2,192 candidates taking the test in three centres, Moodbidri has eight centres with 5,040 candidates and Ujire has two centres with 808 candidates.

All over the state, 1,98,639 students have sought to appear for this examination. While 1,00,077 among them are boys, 98,568 are girls.

The timing of the test is 10.30 to 11.30 am and 2.30 to 3.30 pm. All over the state, 430 centres have been identified for holding the examination, which will be overlooked by 430 observers and 860 members of special vigilance squads. The question papers are being provided in both English and Kannada. Deputy director of PU education here, Alvira Philomena D'Souza, stated that all preparations have been made to hold CET without any hitches in 26 centres over Dakshina Kannada district.

Deputy commissioner of Udupi district, Priyanka Mary Francis, has issued prohibitory orders under section 144 on April 18 and 19, duly declaring an area within 200 metres radius of CET examination centres between 8 am and 5 pm as prohibited areas. Xerox shops functioning near these centres have been ordereed to remain closed during the said period.
