Bengaluru: Mahesh Vikram Hegde, arrested for spreading fake news, released on bail

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Apr 14: Postcard News co-founder and editor Mahesh Vikram Hegde, who was arrested by the crime branch of Bengaluru police on March 28, on charges of spreading fake and communally sensitive news was released from Dharwad prison on interim bail on April 13.

BJP MP Pratap Simha confirmed the same on Twitter saying, 'After 17 days of ordeal, @mvmeet is free now!'

According to a source close to Hegde, his arrest was 'politically motivated' and 'aimed to detain and harass him'. However, he was granted interim bail after a strong argument by his lawyers.

Mahesh Hegde was charged for captioning a photo of Jain monk Upadhyaya Mayank Sagar Ji Maharaj, who was recently injured in a road accident. Hegde had tweeted on March 19: "Very sad news, yesterday in Karnataka Jain muni attacked by Muslim youth. No one is safe in Siddaramaiah’s Karnataka." The same was tweeted on the Postcard News handle as well.

An Alt News expose had found that the photo was taken from the website of online Jain news portal, Ahimsa Kranti.

Hegde was then arrested by the CCB based on a complaint filed against him in Bengaluru.

The high court ordered an interim stay on the CCB police investigation on April 10. Justice Aravind Kumar further ordered notices to the CCB cybercrime police and complainant Gafar Baig in the case.

Though Hegde received a bail and was released from the Parappana Agrahara, he was arrested by the Karwar police with regard to another case.

"The state government is hell bent to see him behind the bars," says the source.

The Uttar Kannada district and sessions court granted him interim bail in the cases after which he was released on April 13.

The Karnataka high court has sent the notice for the next hearing with regard to the CCB case on April 25.

Not long before this incident, members of a right wing group stormed the Udaipur District and Sessions court in order to support Shambhu Lal Regar, who killed a Muslim man on live camera. Regar’s criminal acts continue to be valorised by people supporting Hindutva ideology. In 2016, Kanhaiya Kumar was beaten up inside Patiala House Court premises, while being produced for his court hearings. It was found out later that the lawyers involved forced him to chant “Bharat mata ki jai".
"The broader trend of “legal activism” by right wing groups is of course emerging in the backdrop of the first edition (2012) of the All India Hindu Convention, an annual convention jointly organised by the Sanatan Sanstha and its affiliate group the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti in Goa. At the first edition, the organisers had called for Hindu lawyers to defend members of the community who were jailed and facing trials in various cases across the country. This demand was reiterated in the sixth edition of the convention in June 2017, which was reportedly attended by 132 Hindu outfits. Consequently, several nationalist legal-rights groups that are headed by former RSS members or members of its legal wing, the Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad have cropped up",.
Postcard.com founder Hegde is the one lucky guy helped "Akhil Bhartiya Adhivakta Parishad " a legal team assisting all the criminals proceedings related to its organization members for all sort of cases from terrorism to fake news.
One must have already famileralised with the faces 'kathua bar association' who have obstructed 'Aasifa' lawyers for filing Criminal proceedings.
When Prime Minister Modi himself follows them in official Twitter account what India can expect better from him?
If there are no development BJP can only rely on 'fake news' factory of social media cottage industry.
Mahesh Vikram Hegde postcard.com know to upload fake news of 'Mesta' murder which created communal disturbance comes handy for the party.
