Bantwal, Apr 1: A notorious inter-district criminal wanted in over 25 cases including murder, murder-attempt and cattle theft, and who had evaded the police in at least 10 cases, was nabbed by a police team led by Mangaluru South ACP Ramarao near Arukula Gate on Sunday, April 1.

Ammemar Imran alias Kutta (24), a resident of Bantwal was arrested near Arkula and a Maruti Omni bearing the registration number KA 19 MC 6252 that was used for cattle theft was confiscated.

Imran was wanted in nearly 25 cases of cattle theft registered at various stations of the city and in Kodagu district - Three cattle theft cases under Mangaluru rural police station limits, one at Bajpe police station, three at Konaje police station, robbery attempt at Ullal police station, and eight other cases at Bantwal police station. Besides, two cases of attempt-to-murder during cattle robbery were also registered against him. Cases of cattle theft were also registered against him in Kushalnagar, Somwarpet, and Sakleshpur police stations. He was also wanted in a lorry driver’s robbery and murder case.

The accused had escaped from police’s hands 10 times in various cases of cattle theft. Nearly a month ago, his companion Nizam was arrested by anti-rowdy squad which led to Imran's arrest.

The operation was conducted under the directions of police commissioner T R Suresh, DCPs Hanumantharaya and Uma Prashanth. ACP Ramarao along with Mangaluru rural police and anti-rowdy squad took part in the successful operation.

    It's not stealing if he pays the owners. It is only reported as stealing due to pressure. Poor farmers need to sell their non milk producing cattle to continue their business. Gau rakshaks do not pay they ask that cattle be donated which is a economic hardship to the poor or even rich farmers. This ban has hurt them more than beef eaters.
