Mysuru, Mar 31: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday, March 30 filed a complaint with the Election Commissioner against chief minister Siddaramaiah alleging the violation of model code of conduct.

It may be recalled that earlier, the Congress had filed a complaint with the EC alleging BJP national president Amit Shah had violated the model code of conduct during his visit to the residence of slain BJP worker Raju in Mysuru.

Returning the favour, BJP has alleged that CM Siddaramaiah during his visit to Chamundeshwari temple here ‘bribed’ two women and the temple priest with Rs 2,000 each, according to the news agency ANI.

The complaint comes after a national news channel showed footage of Siddaramaiah allegedly 'taking out his wallet' and 'distributing money' to two women.

However, the CM defended his action saying he was only following the tradition of giving 'dakshina' after 'arathi' is performed.

I was following a time honoured Hindu tradition of giving dakshina when an aarti is performed.

With the poll fever hitting a high pitch in the state, the campaigning of every political party is gathering speed. The state Assembly elections for the 224 seats will be held on May 12 and the counting of the votes will take place on May 15.
