11% increase in voters in DK, Bantwal, Mangaluru North most sensitive constituencies: DC

Mangaluru, Mar 27: Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil on Tuesday March 27 said that as per the Election Commission, Bantwal and Mangaluru North are considered to be the most sensitive constituencies.

Addressing a press meet at DC's office here, Senthil said that there is 11% increase in the total number of voters in the district. "Total electors including service electors in the state as per 2018 final rolls are 16, 67, 194 as compared to 15,01,024 in 2013. There is 11% increase in the total voters. The male voters are 8,21, 123 in 2018 as compared to 7,36,433 in 2013, the female voters are 8,46,030 in 2018 as compared to 7,57561 in 2013. The transgender voters are 41 in 2018 as compared to 0 in 2013."

During 2013 election held to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, 11,25,888 voters polled including 7,863 postal ballot. Out of the 11, 18,025 total voters polled in polling stations, 5,54,544 were male voters and 5,63,481 were female voters. The total percentage voters polled during 2013 is 74.91%. This percentage among male voters is 74.58% and female voters 74.38% and 0% in case of transgender.

There are 23,346 young voters in the age group of 18-19 years in 2018 as compared to 18,256 in 2013. Gender ratio increased from 1022 to 1030 in the same period. EP ratio remained the same.


Polling stations

Due to increase in the voters, the number of polling stations has also increased from 1,766 in 2013 to 1,790 in 2018. Additional 68 auxiliary polling stations are being established this time. There are 1790 BLOs in place one for each polling station.

Over 2,787 BU machines, 2,322 CU machines and 2,415 VVPAT machines will be used for the Assembly polls.

There will be 24 MCC teams, 26 state surveillance teams, 26 flying squads and 26 check posts for the polls.

The much-awaited Karnataka Assembly elections were announced by Chief Election Commissioner of India Om Prakash Rawat on Tuesday March 27 in New Delhi. The polling for the single-phase election will be held on May 12 and the counting will be on May 15.

The date of notification is April 17 and the last date to file nominations is April 24. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on April 25 and the last day for withdrawal is April 27.
