Udupi: 'Oscar Fernandes did not pay my salary for 15 years', claims former employee

Udupi, Mar 26: Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes has been accused of not paying salary for than 15 years to his employee.

Ambalapady Gopal Poojary in a press meet on Monday March 26 here claimed that Fernandes had not paid salary of Rs 6.07 lac that was due to him over the 15 years he worked for the MP.

 

Poojary said he worked as a superviser at Oscar’s workshop in Manipal. "Later the workshop was shifted to Oscar’s house. I worked there in Manipal workshop and his office for almost 15 years from 1972 to 1987. I got only Rs 200 per month for three months. I got nothing in return but I helped Oscar get an election ticket. If my salary is not paid, I will hold hunger strike at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on April 2.

"I had written to Sonia Gandhi and her secretary Margaret Alva on March 3, 1995 regarding the pending salary. Sonia Gandhi responded and directed Oscar Fernandes to pay the dues. But Fernandes paid me only Rs 10,000, nothing more. I left the job in 1987 because of unpaid salary. I have also approached labour department demanding justice. As per the Pay Commission, I am supposed to get Rs 6,07,321 (till 31-12-2015, at the rate of Rs 200 per month)," Poojary said, adding that even during his daughter's wedding, Oscar Fernandes did not help him out.

"I will hold day-night dharna and if he does not pay my salary, I will commit suicide," he warned.

"I have written to Oscar Fernandes regarding the pending salary 15 days ago. I have also forwarded the copy to the chief minister, the KPCC president and to the DC. But there is no reply yet. My wife Chanchala is sick and I require money for her medicines. At present, there is no other source of income to run the family and I need financial support," he added.

His wife Chanchala was present at the press meet.

    This claim looks very funny.How can a worker work for so long without salary?social worker on free basis?HOW he survived with a family.second when a worker gets his salary certainly he should sign.or worked in black basis?I am sure aperson like Oscar a,politiker doesnt pay his worker personally or?All this should be considered.or his worker didnt pay to Gopalanna.clarify this first and whatever it is should be cleared without delay.why he waited for so long is a question.with all his going to all offices.May be he is in need of money now ,and best is to use a politician he worked for to claim?A big mystery here.How can a worker help politician to a ticket?whatever the ticket is.Oscaranna please clear us this thema.

    How about paying Gopal Rs 200 everyday and make him cut ribbons with his wife...so less work pressure on you and a job to survive for Gopal...

    My housemaids, never and ever will work if we have not paid their salary on time, in spite of they have in house, free accommodation, free food.. That is the terms of house maids.

    Ambalapady Gopal Poojary took Five Lakhs from me for his health care issue, and he never returned a single paisa. Whenever he saw me, he tries to hide from me or sending wrong messages. He also threatened to kill me.

    Just got some cash from CONGRESS for this comment[Not really]. But, I know Ambalapady Gopal Poojary got some cash from BJP. Excellent game to fool our poor Indians. Hehehehehehehe!!!

    Having known Oscar Fernandes for many years now, i dont think he would go to this extent not paying salaries of his staff, as he is in the top circles of his political party.

    Again i dont want any injustice to this man for having worked for so long, in case the money is not paid.
    However lot of questions arise here from Oscar's worker....

    Having worked so long without pay!!!!.....how come he remained silent and tight lipped.
    And these are election times.......any political party can stoop down to any level using such pawns in the game of political chess

    I am sure Oscar will provide the proof of payments being made to this man.

    If Oscar Fernandes has paid to his workers, he must be having signature from his employees as I don’t think any employer would pay his workers without receipt. There should be an investigation if this is the only worker who did not get paid or there are more.

    I just wonder how a person can keep quiet for 15 long years until he left the employment in 1987 and thereafter 30 more years since he left his employer! How did he survive those 15 longs years without receiving salary?

    It sounds very strange but we cannot take anyone’s side unless it is proven. If Mr. Poojary was not paid, why he was not paid? Can Mr. Fernandes not produce proof that he does not owe any money to this poor man? Mr. Poojary says as per the Pay Commission he has to get more than Rs. 6 lakhs from his employer, and despite the Commission’s instruction if the payment was not made, then Mr. Fernandes is a gross defaulter. Hope Mr. Fernandes will clarify the issue soon.

    This man says he approached Labour department. Even I have complained to Labour department for Company not paying my daughters salary. There officer told me we can not tell you when your daughter get her dues. May take 1 year or even 3 years or more. Within ten months she got her salary. Even after two years call came from labour department to ask whether we got full settlement. And in this case of more than 15 years I dont think labour department will not attend his case. And why this matter raised just before election, waiting for this time only ?

    I do know as to what is truth behind this story, but there are few interesting questions that I cannot get my head around:
    1. Mr. Poojary gets paid for just three months but still goes on to work for 15 years for an individual from 1972 to 1987?? Who does that? Did Mr. Poojary have nothing else to do at the prime of his life then waste it for 15 years hoping to get paid?

    2. It is more than 30 years since he quit his job with Oscar; and he is still hoping to get paid? And

    3. how does the amount of Rs. 6Lac get calculated if he is to be paid Rs. 200 pm? Where did that figure come from? And why would he refer to the Pay Commission? Was he a personal employee of Oscar or was he a Government servant?

    Sir,
    How you were supporting your family for 15 years without a salary? Instead of Rs.200/- per month, how much was your income on daily basis? The daily income may be more than your mentioned monthly salary and this reason you stayed/worked on that job. No sane person would stay on the job without any compensation either on the table or under the table.

    There is a method to bend your finger to get the ghee out of a container, when it doesn't come out with a straight finger. This man has suffered enough to claim his unpaid dues. He did the right think by coming public with the claim when all that confidential approach did not help.

    Publicly shaming is the only way to teach these people, who otherwise file crores as asset when applying for a position. Let the ex-minister clear his stand by saying either this man was never employed by him or that he made clear all that was payable to him.

    I don't know if Gopal worked from 1972 to 1987....but I have seen him in Oscar's house/office from 1980-1985...along with late Manjunath Udyavar, Prabhakar and Lokayya Paniyadi....I don't know these guys were worker's or volunteers...

    If Gopala was a worker....then Oscar need to pay them...
