Chikkamagaluru, Mar 23: SP of Chikkamagaluru Annamalai who is called 'Singham' for his strictness when it comes to criminals, has been creating awareness on various issues pertaining to society. A video has been going viral on social media and other platforms where SP Annamalai is seen sharing how the real time updates by a person on social media has helped a man to carry out a theft in Chikkamagalur.

In the video the SP says that unfortunately, people's lifestyle has become more public with the advent of social media. "We are putting our lives in public domain, be it on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. It is all privacy. Our mobile phone is tracked everywhere we go. In the theft case that occurred in my district a thief stayed in a house, used the kitchen and other things for almost for three days and finally escaped with stolen items like TV, cooker etc. When the house owner returned she found the house empty. She immediately filed a complaint in the town police station. The investigating team was successful in nabbing the thief within 20 days of the crime."

The SP further narrates how the thief hatched his plan to loot the house. "The live updates by the victim on Facebook helped the thief. The victim had posted on Facebook that she was going to Goa on a tour. She also made real time updates of Goa beach, hotel that she was staying which helped the thief to hatch his plan without any hitch. The only thing he had to do was to go to her profile and see her updates.

"Everybody knows what we are doing. It is a very dangerous trend," the SP cautions.

Annamalai had earned the titles like 'Udupi Singham' and 'Anna' for checking criminal activities swiftly and good crime detecting skills. He is also known for his close ties with junior officers and people-friendly initiatives. Annamalai holds an IIM-Lucknow degree. He has served in Karkala as ASP and as SP of Udupi district.

This awareness campaign of SP Annamalai is appreciable. His storyline is similar to one happened in United States through Facebook account which is in controversy over 2 Billion private data theft through Public relation firm 'Cambridge Analytica' and its Indian subsidiary Ovleno.
Unless and until India doesn't have tough regulation like Germany for this social media any uploads on social media will be disastrous for the 'Digital India.
In a startling revelation, a former BJP IT cell member has claimed that the whole BJP IT cell operates from the BJP head office 24 Ashoka Road, where around 300 people work, have 20k Facebook pages and 300 fake news portals.
There are many instances in the past like Muzzafarnagar communal violence fake video upload originated from Pakistan or recent Araria bye poll were video dubbing similar to JNU has done to show pro Pakistan slogans is alarming in nature.
The Karnataka assembly elections are due in less than two months, as per the internal news BJP cell of fake news factory has so material created and ready to launch to defame particular individuals through character assassination for political gains.
In addition to Mr.Anamalai, I appeal all Kannadigas to be extra vigilant in the coming days while forwarding social media update. Kindly verify the source of the material. There are many websites such as 'alt news' helps bust such fake news.
We kannadigas want real development which guarantees the employment, health, security, shelter, women empowerment and so on.
We do not want communal politics in Karnataka.
