Udupi, Mar 20: A building contractor allegedly assaulted office peon of the department of social welfare here recently.

Angara Suvarna (56), the peon was on duty at the office on March 17. Half portion of the old office belonging to taluk panchayat near the office of the department of social welfare is being demolished and a new building is being constructed in its place. The contract is assigned to Udyavar Bollaje Santhosh Suvarna.

Angara Suvarna, in view of the security of old files and other records in the office, requested contractor Santhosh at about 5.30 pm to raise completely the height of the wall under construction. Santhosh who was angered by it came forward to hit Angara Suvarna on the head with a lath that was lying there. When Angara ran in the office to avoid being hit, Santhosh followed him and hit Angara on his hand and injured him.

A police case is registered at Udupi town police station on the basis of complaint by Angara Suvarna.
