Mangaluru, Mar 19: Konkani drama 'Khandi Khuris' by Rang Tarang troupe from Mysuru was successfully presented at Don Bosco hall here on Sunday, March 18.
The drama is being presented for the fifth time after four successful shows across the state. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangaluru, Basti Vaman Shenoy, president, World Konkani Centre, John M Permannur and Vally Vagga, writer were present during a brief stage programme.
Wishing success to the team, Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza said, "We cannot compare the incidents of past, with the current situation. Time, situation and social mentality paved way for such incidents which are condemnable. In ancient times, some sins were treated as greater sins. So the church gave public punishments. But later, the church made revolutionary changes in its practices and stopped these types of punishments,”
“‘Khandi Khuris’ was also a public punishment, which was practiced in the Konkan region. Vally Vagga has tried to present the same in this drama. It will help us recall the history of Catholics of the Konkan region. I wish the best to the writer, director and all the artistes. These types of dramas always uphold religious importance. But at the same time, we need encourage social-issue oriented dramas also,” he added.
Basti Vaman Shenoy said, "Don Bosco hall is the cradle of Konkani dramas. Hundreds of writers, directors and artistes came to light through this hall. It still continues and should continue for generations to come. I salute the administrators of this hall. Vally Vagga is one of the finest story writers in Konkani. Besides, he is also a good organizer. Settled in Mysuru, he takes lead in every Konkani programme there. Now he has entered the field of Konkani drama by writing ‘Khandi Khuris’. I wish him all the success in his upcoming projects,"
John M Permannur was felicitated by bishop on the occasion.

‘Khandi Khuris’ is written by Vally Vagga with drama format given by John M Permannur and directed by George William D'Souza, Madanthyar.
Agnes Lena Shamboor, Pius Saldanha Virajpete, Clifford D'Souza Madanthyar and George William D'Souza, Madanthyar have acted in the drama. Music is provided by Samson Mysuru.
