Beltangady, Mar 18: Capuchin Krishik Seva Kendra (R), Dayalbagh along with Beltangady Warado parishes organized 'An Evening of Parables' (Voparanchi Sanj), a Konkani and Kannada dance musical composed by Fr Paul Melwyn D'Souza (Pamedi) at Sacred Heart church grounds Madaynthar.

The programme was organized as part of the Lenten observation and to raise funds towards the rehabilitation of differently abled children of 'DAYA special children centre' run by the Capuchin priests at Beltangady. The colorful and biblical inspirational programme was witnessed by around 1000 people.

The event portrayed the Biblical parables of 'The Prodigal Son', 'Foolish and Wise Virgins', 'Lost Sheep', 'Three Servants given Talents' and 'Four Types of Soil’. Various artists performed the drama to the accompaniment of background music, song and dance. The show was written and directed by Fr Melwyn Paul D'Souza and choreographed by Suresh Attavar. The artists were from Chakrapani Nratya Kala Kendra, Mangaluru and students from Nazareth School. These professional artists gave a wonderful performance, displaying their artistic skills to narrate biblical parables with lots of feelings and emotions.

Ronald Sequeira, vice-president of Sacred Heart church, Madaynthar welcomed the guests and the gathering. Fr Vinod Mascarenhas, director of DAYA Special Children Centre, Beltangady felicitated and thanked people responsible for the success of this show. He thanked wholeheartedly Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, vicar-vara of Beltangady warado, Fr Basil Vas, parish priest of Sacred Heart church, Madayanthar and all the warado parish priests for their constant support to organize this program successfully. He also felicitated Fr Paul Melwyn, the mastermind behind the programme and Suresh Attavar for his choreography.

Fr Vinod highlighting the service done to the special children of Beltangady Taluk, said that the contribution collected during this show will be utilized for the treatment, rehabilitation and education of the differently-abled children. He then briefed the various activities that are undertaken in the centre like medical checkups, physiotherapy, counseling sessions, speech therapy, reading and writing practice, group dynamics, skill trainings, vocational trainings and nutritious midday meal to satisfy the physical hunger.

Since the families of these children are economically backward, all these facilities and treatment are given free of cost. At present there are more than 40 children in the centre. Still more than 50 special children are eagerly waiting in their homes for treatment and rehabilitation. He also encouraged the gathering to join their hands with this mission of Capuchins through their contributions, support and visits.
