Udupi: Headmaster arrested for demanding bribe to sanction 'Shoe Bhagya' bill

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Mar 18: A team of Anti Corruption Bureau officials arrested headmaster of the government school at Hiriadka. The headmaster concerned has been accused of demanding bribe for passing bill under government's 'Shoe Bhagya' scheme.

The arrested person has been identified as M K Vasudeva, headmaster of government model higher primary school, Hiriadka.

After being informed that Vasudeva was pestering the concerned to pay bribe for releasing bill amount under the scheme under which shoes and socks are provided free of cost to students by the government, ACB officers along with other staff raided the office of the headmaster concerned on Saturday March 17 and arrested him red-handed when accepting bribe of Rs 7,000.

On being produced in the court, the judge remanded Vasudeva to two weeks judicial custody.

Shoes had been supplied to the students of the school by a private firm in Manipal. The total bill amount was Rs 1, 09,000 and the headmaster is said to have sought illegal gratification of Rs 10,000 in order to release this amount. After negotiations, this amount had been brought down to Rs 7,000.

ACB officials claim that in the past too there was a complaint against this headmaster about collecting money from students illegally and the higher authorities had found that the headmaster was guilty in this case.

The raid was conducted under the guidance of ACB (west) superintendent of police, Shruthi, by deputy superintendent of police of ACB, Dinakar Shetty, as well as inspectors, Jayaram D Gowda and Sathish BS along with some other officials.

The law is like a cobweb,it catches only flies and insects. The bigger animals tare it and escape. May be it is a trap to nab a man who has done a lot of good work in the school.May be it is a conspiracy by the upper caste lobby to downsize a teacher who does not listen to them. contractors in udupi loot in crores and live without any fear of any anti corruption agency agency.I smell a rat in the episode.

Don't support the headmaster? He was caught by ACB of Karnataka govt and not by Central govt. You may not like the comments put forth by the people here. But blindly don't blame other parties since you don't like it and support corrupt head master. Whether small or big amount, the taking bribe is not acceptable. There is a proverb that says Aane kadddhur kalla, Adike kaddhuru kalla.

There is greed in every individual, however, earlier religious, education, charity and medical institutions were believed that they are much sincere, transparent and trustworthy. These days one has to use microscopes to find out one such institution in the thousands which crop up every alternative day.

What I find quite amusing that, there are guys who are blaming siddu Govt. That implies they agree that Nirav Modi, Mallya etc. targeted because they did not give the 90% cut to BJP leaders.
By the way 10k, is nothing infront of 10K, CRORE.

The headmaster looks like "LALA" of Hindi picture. If bribe proved, collect double amount of the bill (i.e. Rs.2,18,000/-) from headmaster and arrange Bicycle Bhagya for the distance boys and girls of this school.

Nasir,Bajpe, low pay doesnt give one that right to be corrupt and make the poor students what they are legally from Govt . sanctioned shoes or whatever it is to get.It is not his fathers asset or giving from his pocket. He should ashame for his work as a Govt employee and that too as headmaster,a elder person. One gets more respect suppose he is more sincere and honest. Here he is not.His post as headmaster should not be allowed to continue. He should be punished with high amount of money .Just inspect how much money he has collected till now.Nowadays teachers pay is not bad when one compares to old times.

    Deepak
Your point here is pertinent. For primary students under this Bhagya, shoes are of Rs 225 and higher primary Rs 250. Weighted average comes about Rs 235 and in addition to this 2 pairs of socks are provided and the total amount to a student may be Rs 275. If there were 400 students in the school and it was really provided to all of them, then the voucher may be authentic. Since the vendor had gone to ACB complaining of bribe , the chances of fake bill is very less.
