Kasargod: 'Promised to clean Ganga, but cleaned only banks' - Prakash Rai slams BJP govt

Stephan Kayyar
Daijiworld Media Network – Kasargod (EP)

Kasargod, Mar 16: "Communal hatred is more dangerous to the country than corruption. The BJP and the RSS are trying to spoil communal harmony in saying that peace in the country is possible only when one religion is wiped out from the land. The BJP invests in lies. BJP is prepared to hatch any conspiracy for power," opined actor Prakash Rai.

He was speaking after inaugurating a public discussion programme titled 'Samakaleena Sankatagalu' held at Hosangadi Hillside auditorium, by Shanti Sena Foundation here on Thursday, March 15.

Commenting on the results of the recent Lok Sabha bypolls in Uttar Pradesh where BJP suffered a humiliating defeat, Rai said, "Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath who came to power in the name of cow and communal hatred has been taught a lesson by people within months of assuming power. The party has faced humiliating defeat. People have understood the false promises of Yogi and PM Modi. People will not allow leaders to remain in power for long on the basis of false statements and speeches," he said.

"The BJP-led government which said that it will clean Ganga river has only cleaned the banks. The union government is dividing people by saying cow and coconuts are for one group and goats and dates for the other group. It says that it has faith in saffron colour that reminds one of Swami Vivekananda. But there is nothing to learn from Uttar Pradesh chief minister who preaches communal hatred while wearing saffron," he said.

"I like politics but do not want to contest elections. I intend to defeat BJP. I want to be identified as a citizen rather than a leader," he added.

"The government wants to isolate the one who questions. Farmers and poor may not question. The policy and actions of our elected representatives affect our lives. We need courage to question. We can get pro-people administration only when we unite and question," Rai said.

Mangalore University College English professor Pattabhirama Somayaji was the coordinator. Chief convener of the foundation, Harshad Varkadi chaired the programme.

Dr Murali Mohan Choontaru and G N Mohan were present.

Visit to Gilivindu

Prakash Rai later visited the renovated residence of national poet Manjeshwar Govinda Pai and saw Bhavanikaranga mandira. He garlanded the statue of Govinda Pai at the memorial complex. Memorial committee secretary K R Jayananda, block panchayat president A K M Ashraf were present.

Holy river 'Ganges' is still existing but in sheer negligence. When Ganges is yet to be cleaned even after Supreme Court wip, the Manohar Lal Khattar government in Haryana had allocated Rs. 50 crores to the project aimed at discovering the river considered sacred by Hindus.
The Sarasvati, a river mentioned in several ancient Indian texts and believed to have disappeared some 4,000 years ago, is now being furiously searched for. The 'lost' Saraswati river, which mythologically dried up some 4000 years ago, was brought back to life, or rather put on life support when the Haryana government pumped 100 cusecs of water from tubewells (1 cusec = 28.317 litres per second) into it.

In Delhi Tamil Nadu farmers were protesting for loan waiver. In Maharashtra farmers walking on bare feet 6 days fro 180 kilometers to ask for land right. In Yogi's 'encounter Pradesh' farmers are blocked gherao parliament demanding support price. In Madhya Pradesh farmers are shot dead for protesting.
When Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh can mobilize lakhs of 'Karsevaks' to Ayodhya for demolition of 400 years of ancient mosque, why can't it ask the 10 crores members of its political wing BJP use the pan and shovel to clean 'Holy Ganges'?
When the 'Kar Sevak' can demolition such massive structure, why can't they make use of such energy to clean 'Ganga Matta'?
Why can't this 'Kar Sevak' revive 'Ganga' and save help PM Modi government spend billions in dirty waters like they throw dead bodies?

Totalitarianism as a concept is alien to Hindu religion. It is part & parcel of some religion. Hinduism accomaodates many Gods and adding a few of other religion does not dilute it. Hindusim is a way of life. there are no hard and fast rules in Hindusim. the scriptures have only a guidance value and is not a rule book. infact some local communities like Bunts , Billawas, Mogaveeras were spirit worshipppers called daivas or bhoothas. other lords came much later. So for Rai to say that the agenda is to wipe out other religion is very foolish. The only reason why hindusim is becomming a group trying to defend its religion is to stall the risk of getting wiped out gradulaly by other religion. this is infact manifesting itself in many forms. can you please tell the burmese & srilankan phenomenon?.

One simple question who say Ganga cleaning is promised and nothing happened... ok... have you gone there personally and have any photos/videos of your visiting that place... Cleaning of river ganga is not so easy and most of the factories situated there specially garments/chemical/dye making etc are diverting the dirty water to ganges directly since so many years... even corpse disposal were allowed where there was no control from any govt agenecies and every thing worked on bribing... Now pl visit that place and see, even Supreme court is watching the progress done and instruct central govt in this regard is on public domain... any one can try RTI and get those information. Mr Prakash Rai is showing all his anger, arrogancy and revengeful speech through out his program against Central Govt. show his attitude towards our country and he does not have any proper measures to over come this hazard of pollution in Ganga river... Just a public attraction without any positive thoughts...

Not each citizen can go to each and inspect every corner of the nation to study how thing are taking place in the country. That's why, we rely on media and dailies operating in the nation. Please feel free to watch the above video that came out during this week.

Yes, factories on the bank of the river and its tributaries play a major role but have a look at the floating flowers and the result of their decay over time. Throwing half burnt human remains is another issue but the people of the area use the river for bathing, washing clothes and drinking the water.

Well, I can't say anything more than this.

Communal ism and dividing the society on hindu hegemony and preaching hindutva is doing disservice to sanathana dharma. This dongi nautanki wont be tolerated by people of this country.
Truth will prevail at the end.

Being a star and celebrity, it is ones responsibility to help the Government and public. If Government is cleaning Ganga, Rai can help the Government with his advises rather ridiculing without any proof.

You are asking the proof from a non celebrity like me. But did you ask the proof from Rai about his comment on Ganga cleaning? If not, Why?

Why would I ask proof from Rai ? I'm watching news and I see what is going on around. Rai is a celebrity hence his voicing against any subject will be louder. Nevertheless, I would have said the same thing if you had raised the voice because I am not faking my feelings towards environment and pollution.

However, what the reason for your resentment if Rai voices concern ? Would you have felt the same if 'Bhaiyon, Behnoon.... Ganga Bahut Maili hogayi hai...' had come ?

    Feroz,

Please tell me if you understand anything from the following :
    Quote
When the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) came to power at the Centre in 2014, the cleaning of the national river Ganga was declared a priority under Modi’s leadership. A separate ministry was formed under Uma Bharti and Rs 20,000 crore was allocated in the budget 2015 on cleaning Ganga by 2020, a four-fold increase over the expenditure over the past 30 years.
    Unquote

Today is 2018. Do you see any outcome of the funds allocated in 2015 ? Can you question how much was spent, on what it was spent and what is the result ? Hmm ?? Well, BJP leaders always question what did the party do in 70 years of rule' I can say, at-least the party did not throw into the river four times more than that was done in past 30 years.

'Promised to clean Ganga, but cleaned only banks' - Prakash Rai slams BJP govt

I absolutely agree with Mr. Rai. Cleaned only banks proves very much because the water in Ganga still stank. To avoid this stench when the French President was taken on a tour by Indian PM on a boat, several liters of perfume was poured into Ganga. I doubt this helped because one can't make a perfume powerful enough to cover the volume of the water in the river.

Please understand how millions of Rupees are reserved from the budget to clean her water but nothing is done. I don't dispute with keeping the funds but am not satisfied with how the funds are used.

I commend Mr. Rai to have raised the topic because a person from within the community is more appropriate to do so than from some other community because then it will be taken as blasphemy.
