Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 8: The cabinet meeting held at Bengaluru on Wednesday March 7, among other things, gave its permission to the proposal to demolish existing dilapidated Kadri market complex standing on 25 cents of land in ward No. 33 in the city. It also approved a proposal to build a new market building in the place of the existing one in 45 cents of land. The estimated cost of the new structure is Rs 12.30 crore.

Minister for parliamentary affairs, T B Jayachandra, gave this information to the media persons after the cabinet chaired by chief minister, Siddaramiaah, met on Wednesday.

Need for a new market complex at Kadri has been felt since long as the current building is in a bad state and it is inconvenient to vendors as well as customers.

I don't agree that the construction of the Kadri Market will take years to complete. Mangaloreans have witnessed several works completed during the past couple of years under the leadership of Mr J.R. Lobo. If he is voted back as an MLA for a second term, Mangalore will see developments which we have not dreamed before. So lets strengthen Mr Lobo's hands by voting him as our MLA once again.

By all means, construct a new market. But please take care of the big and old trees just outside the market. These huge trees provide shade and shelter to hundreds of people during the day and the authorities concerned should ensure that no damage should be done to those trees.
