Mangaluru: Actor Prakash Belawadi to inaugurate Beacons 2018 in Deralakatte

Mangaluru, Mar 5: Nitte Institute of Communication (NICO), constituent college of Nitte, deemed to be University is to organize this year the fifth edition of Beacons on March 8th and 9th 2018 which will be held at Paneer campus in Deralakatte. 

“The two-day national level inter-collegiate media fest will be inaugurated by chief guest Prakash Belawadi, who is a well-known theater, film, television and media personality. The fest is themed ‘dissent is necessary’,” said Raviraj Kini, HOD of NICO, while addressing a press meet in the city.

“The media fest brings to its participants various unique events; to introduce to students from different backgrounds a variety of things that media students are involved in. A total of 16 events including short film making, face painting, escape room, potpourri, theme dance, creative writing, RJ hunt, product launch, photography, mock press, quiz, crisis management and movie spoof. This year the fest also sees an addition of video PSA and video bulletin,” said Wilma Serrao, Asst Prof, NICO, who is the faculty coordinator of Beacons 2018. 

“The events are open, not just for media students but also for the students of commerce, arts, as well as science backgrounds”, she added. 

“The previous four editions of Beacons have had very good responses from in and around Mangaluru, as well as all over Karnataka. Beacons 2017 was attended by 25 colleges with around 300 participants, she said. She also said that this year too these students have already been approached and more number of students are expected to arrive this time. 

Student coordinators of Beacons 2018, Pavan Kumar and Prabhat Shetty were also present.
