Kerala student bullied by 'RSS supporters' for FB post on menstrual taboo

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 24 (PTI): An 18-year-old Keralite law student has filed a police complaint alleging cyber bullying by right-wing groups after she posted a poem on her Facebook page on taboos attached to menstruation.

The abusers alleged that the poem on a menstruating goddess hurt their religious sentiments, Navami Ramachandran from Mallappally in Pathanamthitta district said.

The woman claimed she received threats on social media. An activist of the Students Federation of India, the teenager posted the poem to extend support to another youngster who had also faced a similar threat for speaking out on menstruation on social media.

Navami alleged that even her school-going sister was not spared and was threatened by a group of unidentified people earlier this week.

A few bike-borne persons, with their faces obscured by masks, threatened Lekshmi, her younger sister, she alleged in another post.

"Taking into account other recent incidents, there is no doubt that the RSS was behind the act," Navami alleged.

Based on a complaint by her family about the alleged attack on Lekshmi, police registered a case and began a probe.

    Vincent Rodrigues,

''Why someone need to interfere in infringing the fundamental rights of the citizens''

This happens in our country often in our country because we are uncivilized. Police dont bother to protect the rights of the citizens, they are just exist to serve as thugs for corrupt politicians. Couples get beaten up and handed over to police because they belong to a different community. People get beaten up because they carry meat of a specific animal. Cannot celebrate a specific day for love. Politicians or their kin can basically beat anyone they please and nothing happens to them.

In the recent hullabaloo over GST, many brands have jumped at the opportunity to declare discounts and sales. But all we could think about was – how are we going to explain to the girls and women in our Sexual and Reproductive Health Programmes that the sanitary pads we had been teaching them to use would now be more expensive?
But PM Modi's government has classified sanitary products as 'aesh-aaraam ki vastu' (luxury goods) and all condoms tax free, even the 'ribbed-for your pleasure' ones, is merely a strategic priority keeping in mind the national government’s agenda of population control and the acceptance of sexual activity as inevitable.
In a country where nearly 80% of menstruating women still have to resort to unhygienic means such as cloth, sand and even cow dung to deal with their period, exposing them to the risk of severe diseases and even death, the elimination of GST on essential sanitary products should merely be a first step and definitely not an end in itself.
BJP is the political wing of Rashtriya swayamsevak Sangh. How Sangh against its own political affiliation.
The time is ripe for the government to acknowledge menstruation in the mainstream discourse and not a hush-hush affair, and to design policy for access to basic menstrual hygiene, treatment of related disorders and disposal of menstrual waste.
Menstruation is not a disease. Women empowerment start with her hygiene. Why Bleeding a Luxury?
Is Bharat Mata gave birth to her childrens with menstrual cycles? Why Sangh Parivar is against sanitation and health of women of India?

While congress in Karnataka doing a noble job of educating women and making them self sufficient by a 'Padwoman' in menstrual sanitary practices RSS in Kerala is making fun of women who want to voice thier opinion as taboos and impediments involved in this normal and natural healthy cycles. Even Navami is a Hindu girl and quite aware of goddesses naturally occurring cycles which is a blessing so there is no question about hurting religious sentiments. Oh Goddess please give these beasts some enlightenment and help them to think differently for the betterment of the society.
