Mangaluru, Feb 24: Revana Siddappa, the traffic police, whose video of repairing the iron strip that had come off the concrete road near Bunts Hostel in the city that went viral on the social sites, was awarded Rs 5000 at the end of the police phone-in programme on Friday, February 23 by T R Suresh, police commissioner.

Few days ago, an iron plate had come off, due to wear and tear, on the concrete road that was leading to Mallikatta from Bunts Hostel due to the heavy traffic. Drivers were driving on the road without noticing the strip that might have caused danger to them if got stuck in between the wheels of the vehicle. Though the public had brought this to the notice of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) officials, corrective action was not taken.

Revana Siddappa, who noticed the danger that the lifted metal strip may cause to the drivers, sat on the road and hammered it back onto the concrete road. The video was taken by onlookers and was shared on social sites.

Speaking after honouring Revana Siddappa, police commissioner, T R Suresh said, "The social concern, displayed along with his duty, by traffic police Revana Siddappa is exemplary and appreciable. It is very rare to find people in the police department, who do this kind of work out of social concern."

Deputy Commissioners of police, Hanumantharaya and Uma Prashant, assistant commissioners of police, Manjunath Shetty and Valentine D'Souza, Inspectors, Shivaprakash, Amanulla and Manjunath, assistant sub-inspector Yousuf and head constable Purushothama were present on the occasion.

My big salute to Traffic police Revana Siddappa for his presence of mind in fixing the metal strip which would have caused danger to the drivers. Instead, he should have got the cash award as well as a medal of honor which he could have displayed as a memory. God bless him and his family.

Mr. Revana Siddappa has demonstrated concern for his fellow citizens by averting harm and enhancing safety, has displayed civic awareness and basic human courtesy. He has exemplified his civic duty without selfishness. Now the Rotary club and the Mangalore City Corporation needs to recognize this cop. If every citizen follows his example we will be an Utopian society. Let us begin by basic etiquette. If you see him on duty or else where, please commend him.

Congrats to Mr Siddappa for his total allertnes in doing the duty and also saving lives of two wheelers... MCC does not give importance to maintenance of concrete roads in the city... they are not bothered about the gap of high concrete and the side paths which is dangerous for two wheelers and the comuters... Many are busy with election and least bothered about the possible accident that could occur in these heavy trafic junctions of Mangalore...

WHY CAN'T YOU ALSO SHOW THE SAME SPIRIT TO YOUR FELLOW INDIAN BROTHERS WITHOUT SEPARATING PEOPLE BY THEIR RELIGION AND CAST. YOU TOO WILL BE AWARDED BIGGER THAN FROM GOD. THAN WHAT THIS POLICE MAN GOT.

I DON'T THINK IT IS POSSIBLE FOR ALL SPECIALLY FOR YOU WHEN YOU HAVE THAT MIND FILLED WITH HATRED TOWARDS OTHERS EXCEPT FOR FEW OF YOUR CLOSE HINDU BROTHERS AND NOT ALL. TRY TO BE A GOOD HINDU MY BROTHER. WE ARE ALL INDIANS AND NOT MIGRATED FROM ANY OTHER COUNTRY OR PLANET. JAI HIND
