Mangaluru, Feb 23: Office bearers of South Kanara Photographers’ Association (SKPA), inaugurated a unique programme ‘Vriksha Suraksha’ with the tagline of ‘grow and protect saplings till they grow as trees and bring about a ray of awareness in young minds’ at Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat higher primary school, Marakada on Thursday, February 22.

K Mohammed, corporator of Kunjathbail ward chaired the programme and expressed that the young children of the school should have concern towards environment. Association district president Wilson Gonsalves inaugurated the programme and conveyed his best wishes. Environmentalist Dinesh Holla called for protection of water, trees and saplings which are neglected due to modernization. Mahalingeshwar temple Kavoor managing trustee Sumanth Rao commended the programme and assured his support for such programmes.

SDCC Bank Kavoor branch president Harishchandra, environment lover Madhava Ullal, school president Damodar, school old students’ association president Narayan Salian, zonal secretaries Ajay Kumar and school headmistress Malati were present.

District vice-president of the association, Harish Adyar in his key note address explained about the blue print of growing and protecting saplings and ‘Vriksha Suraksha’. The programme of planting saplings in the school premises was held under the leadership of Madhav Ullal by Kavoor Customs’ CRP Lavina Crasta, school teachers, students and office bearers.

Mangaluru zonal president Padmanabha Suvarna welcomed the gathering. Treasurer Vasanth Rao rendered the vote of thanks. Senior teacher Hemalatha compered the programme.
