Mumbai, Feb 21: The Kannada department of Mumbai University on Tuesday February 20 held a convocation programme at Ranade Bhavan, Vidyanagari, Kalina campus, Santacruz east.

Gokarnanatheshwara College, Mangaluru Mannagudde professor Mohan Bollar was presented Ph D for his thesis on Basavanna and Narayana Guru. The doctorate was presented by Gulbarga University professor, senior scholar Dr S M Hiremata.

Mumbai University head of the department of Kannada, Dr G N Upadhya, Billavara Association Mumbai president Nithyananda D Kotian, thesis guide Dr K Raghunath and reputed author Dr Jeevi Kulkarni were on the dais.

“Though Basavanna from Karnataka and Narayana Guru from Kerala were born in different places in terms of languages, their social concern was one. Therefore, I selected the subject on them,” said Dr Mohan Bollar. He thanked Jaya C Kotian, M B Kukyan, Dr G N Upadhya, V R Kotian, Dr Raghunath and Nithyanand Kotian who made him grow to the present level.

Rama Udupa, Dinker Chandan, M G Shivaraj, Udaya Shetty and Laxmi Poojary congratulated Dr Mohan. Kannada department lecturer Dr Poornima S Shetty welcomed everyone and compered the programme. Y Madhusoodan Rao proposed the vote of thanks.
