Kundapur, Feb 20: The district and sessions court on Tuesday, February 20 sentenced Prashanth Mogaveera to death for killing, raping and murdering of a pregnant woman on April 11, 2015.

The gruesome incident had shocked the coast. The court, after the crime was proved, sentenced the accused to ten years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 for rape under section 376, one year imprisonment for illegal trespass under section 448 and Rs 1,000 fine and four years rigorous imprisonment for attempted kidnap under section 451 and Rs 2,000 fine, ten years rigorous imprisonment and Rs 30,000 fine for robbing gold chain under section 392 and death and Rs 50,000 fine for murder of the mother and five month old unborn female child under section 302. As many as 23 witnesses were heard in the trial which proved the crime.

It may be recalled that accused Prashanth Mogaveera broke into victim Indira’s house on April 11, 2015. Entering the room of the deity in the house, he broke open the dumb box of the deity and stole cash from it. He saw pregnant Indira who was in the shed, raped and killed her by dropping a large stone on her. He then fled to the sea shore. Prashanth was arrested by Kundapur police the next day at 3.30 pm for the crime which is termed as one of the cruelest in the region.

The crime committed by Prashanth Mogaveera was very inhuman. He had bit her on three different places on her body and injured her. He has scratched and injured her at fifteen places for resisting his attempts. The injuries were the primary evidences for the crime.

Kind gesture of Ravikiran Murdeshwar

Women's Santwana Kendra president Radhadas and Sthree Shakthi organizations had campaigned and held protests to consider the rape as a special case. The government which considered as such, appointed Ravikiran Murdeshwar as the special public prosecutor. He has tried to impart justice to the deceased woman without charging even a rupee as remuneration.

Family members express joy

The family members of the deceased have welcomed the death sentence to the accused. Media has stated that such sentence is suitable for the mentality of the person who committed the gruesome crime.

At last justice prevailed. No Mercy should be shown on this criminal by any Court of Law in the Country and even by the President of India for committing such barbaric crime on a pregnant woman even when he files appeal.

If the Human Rights Organization pleads for his mercy, then ALL the Members of those organizations should be stoned to death in public view for claiming mercy on this criminal as per ISLAMIC LAW. Then all these people will understand the pain of the woman and unborn child in the womans womb.

Death sentence cannot be carried out, unless the high court confirms that, according to Indian law. Hence, it may take some years. After that, the person can go to supreme court. Even if Supreme court confirms it, he has a chance to go to President for clemency. The execution for such a crime should have been swift and urgent.

A very good decision. still the the woman doesnt help and come back, her baby had no chance to come into the world .How cruell he was to her ,that he must be realising now.so it is a warning to the rst of fututre rapists.Be careful, you might be the next suppose you try such criminality.I see that police take the man as if for a picnic, without handcuffs.is it normal?why is he not with van taken? He can at any time slip off .Other side it s sad for the family of accused.

Good verdict...but I have doubt that he will get death sentence, because if you see the imprisonment punishment itself more than 20 years, by the time everyone will forget the incident and culprit will appeal high court to change the death sentence into life imprisonment and the honorable court will accept and will change his death sentence to life imprisonment. Why don't court straight sentence hang to death, instead of wasting years of time to feed him on jail.

This punishment matches with the crime. A person who rapes and murders deserves no leniency.
