Mangaluru, Feb 20: 'AgnEsya 2018', a national level cultural fest organised by the department of Post Graduate Studies and Research in Chemistry of St Agnes College was inaugurated at the college PG auditorium on Tuesday, February 20.

Nagaraju Gattu, general manager, Sequent Research Ltd inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp and unveiling the winners’ trophy. Sr Dr Jeswina, principal, presided over the programme. Dr Geetha M Pinto, HOD, Dr Noeline Pinto, coordinator (PG), Shroswi M S, staff coordinator, and Anisha D’Souza, student coordinator were present.

Addressing the gathering, Nagaraju Mattu said, "There are three important rules which pave the way for success. Firstly, we should identify our strengths and weaknesses. Secondly, we should adopt a mentality of never giving up till achieving something we want. Thirdly, we should try to improve ourselves in areas in which want to shine.

“There is a misconception in people about students of chemistry that once they complete their degree, they should wear white coats. We never think beyond the coat. There are hundreds of industries or sectors which need chemistry students. There are many opportunities and hence students should focus on these areas. They should try to learn the skills which these sectors require,” he said.

Sr Dr Jeswina said, "Healthy competition is necessary to improve ourselves and show how we are experts in our interested areas. This fest is an opportunity to meet each other and exchange ideas about talents. Competitions will help develop your own personality. At the same time, you need to maintain sportsman spirit. Respecting each other is one of best talents.”

Ananya Agnihotri compered the event. Anisa D’Souza rendered the vote of thanks.
