Mangaluru: President approves Kambala bill, no more obstacles now

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Feb 20: President of India has approved the revised Kambala bill that was sent by the state government to the centre. In the coming days, this bill will be sent to the state government through the home ministry and will become a law.

In future, there will be no legal obstacles to organize Kambala sport. This approval has put an end to all the issues and conflicts that were being faced by the Kambala organizers since two years.

This revised bill was accepted in both the houses of the legislative council and legislative assembly in the last winter session at Belagavi. Then the bill was sent to the home ministry for approval from the President. After the formalities were completed, the bill was sent to the President for his signature. Now as the president Ram Nath Kovind has approved it is just a matter of time before this bill is implemented as law.

This approval and subsequent removal of all barriers in organizing the popular sport of coastal Karnataka, has given much joy to the fans and supporters of this traditional sport.

Revised Bill

Though the 'Prevention of cruelty to animals (Karnataka amendment)' bill was approved by the legislature in February 2017 and sent to the President for approval, the same was sent back citing some technical deficiencies. The state government got the omissions corrected and approved the revised bill in both houses and sent the same to the President once again for his approval.

In the meantime, the Karnataka government took out an emergency mandate in order to facilitate carrying out Kambala sport. This mandate was converted to Gazette notification on August 20, 2017 and was in force until January 20, 2018.

District Kambala Samiti expresses gratitude

Barkur Shantharam Shetty, president of district Kambala Samiti, K Gunapal Kadamba, convener, Kambala academy, Ashok Rai, president of Vijaya Vikrama Kambala Samiti, Uppinangadi and the one who has fought legal battles for Kambala have expressed their gratitude to state and central government ministers, officers who have played a very important role in the process from formation of the bill till the approval of the President of India.

They also thanked all people representatives, organizations and Kambala organizers who have fought for the approval of the Kambala bill.

Today's breaking, good and welcome news. PETA people may be biting their nail. They tried their tooth and nail to ban this very prestigious, herediatary, and very age old cultural game of Kambala, which is more prevalent in Karnataka coastal region.

The same is being organized systematically, religiously without hurting the sentiments of any religion and being enjoyed by all the people regardless of their caste, religion and language. This game is pride of our Tuluva culture and cannot be snatched by anyone, whether it is PETA,TETA or anybody else.Such a dignified game.

I am happy to know that all the hurdles, obstacles in this regard has finally put into existence with the approval of president.I congratulate our honourable president for giving us the nod to organize Kambala in future without fearing to anybody.God bless you all,who fought for this.Let this become a law soon.

Not trying to be political in any way but whom do you want to be the president of India ,Osama bin laden or Saddam Hussain to remember their name. We should be happy that a man from a backward community , who used to live in a broken house has become the president of our nation , which is good for democracy right.
