Bantwal: Amtady gram panchayat member hangs self

Bantwal, Feb 19: CPI leader and member of Amtady gram panchayat in the taluk, Chandravathi Bhandary (52), committed suicide at her home at Ajekala on Saturday February 17 by hanging. Reasons for taking this extreme step are yet to be ascertained.

Chandravathi had earlier served as member of Communist Party of India's district board, All India Trade Union Congress district board and member of the district committee of National Federation of Indian Women.

She has left behind her husband, two sons and scores of friends and relatives.

Chandravathi, who contested the gram panchayat election on behalf of CPI, had registered victory in five consecutive elections. She was popular in her role as tailoring teacher and social activist. She was involved in several organizations and committees. She had once contested in the taluk panchayat election too on behalf of CPI.
