Saudi introduces free visa for foreign scientists

Riyadh, Feb 19 (IANS): Saudi Arabia will grant visas free of charge to foreign scientists and experts, in a move that especially aims at improving its health sector, media reports said on Sunday.

Secretary general of the Saudi Health Council Ahmed Al Aamiri praised the decision made by the cabinet last week, Xinhua reported.

Aamiri said the new visa policy was approved as part of various health initiatives suggested by the council to promote the health sector.

The new visa, which will be provided only to those who have proven their competency in different fields, is expected to attract top foreign experts who will take part in the research programmes in the kingdom.

The experts, especially health specialists, could contribute to the major steps the kingdom has been taking to implement various reforms.

Especially, they will help Saudi deal with serious medical issues, including preventing the spread of contagious diseases such as the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus that caused many deaths since 2012.

One should appreciate these moves. The Indian so called 'peace lovers' should learn a lesson from this. In fact they have to take the comments from scholar Muhammad al-Arifi on non-arab 'peace lovers' very seriously and introspect.

Saudi's are modernizing mainly because they cannot run the old way because oil is not the only source of energy it once used to be. Oil prices are low & natural gas is being promoted as it's less polluting than the former. Iran is sharing a natural gas field with Qatar and it could be because the latter is a small country with less population and former can gain influence in member country of GCC. Qatar, a country which was not so doing well until a decade ago is one of the richest now, thanks to Iran. Iran doesn't spend & live lavish like their GCC counterparts. It also has more population to take care of. So it's trying to gain influence in the region slowly but steadily. Only weakness on the part of Iran is that they have not modernized and women do not have much rights. So, by modernizing & giving more rights to women, Saudi's are trying to create a positive image when compared to Iran.

    Good move by Saudi Govt...
Saudi is 50 rank in UN Gender inequality index
    Swiss stands top at 1
While India has much to do ranking at 125
This type of move will surely reduce the Gender inequality index in Saudi..

India standing at 125... Can't dream of becoming like Swiss which ranks top within a decade ....Atleast they can follow footsteps of Saudi which ranks at 50 and reduce wide discrimination of women which is in our society

India has to worry more than Saudi... Saudi ranks 50 according UN's own Gender inequality index but India stands at 125..with poor ranking a country with ranking of 125 has less moral ground to dictate how women should be treated in country which ranks 50.. Its like Saudi men complaining about women treated in swiss which ranks top....
Hindu majority country should worry why they rank so poor even after 70+ years of stable democracy..There was no military raid no civil war no military coup no foreign occupation...like in M.E ...But ranks very poor comparable to countries prone to civil war and military raid..What is that which made India poor even after of its stable democracy it is mainly due to cultural and religious reasons of majority...

    FYI
    Swiss 1
    Denmark 2
    Netherlands 3

    .....
    Libya 38
    Kazakhstan 42
    UAE 46
    Bahrain 48
    Saudi 50
    Oman 54
    ..
    India 125

    Facts matter more than propoganda...
I know bhakts don't refer to facts
