Bengaluru: Dejected over not bearing male child, woman kills self, 3 daughters

Bengaluru, Feb 16 (PTI): Dejected over not bearing a male child, a woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well with her three minor daughters, including a two-month-old baby, at a hamlet in Chikkaballapura district, about 100 km from Bengaluru.

Police said the incident took place at Hanumanthapura village on Thursday morning where Nagashri (25) killed herself along with her three daughters Navyashri (5), Divyashri (3) and the two-month-old baby.

They said she took the children to their farm near the house and took the extreme step.

Police said neither her husband, a labourer, or his relatives had ever harassed her for not bearing a male child.

However she had for long wanted a male child, they said. She was under depression ever since she gave birth to the third girl, they said.

I don't feel any pity on her , since she has no love and pity on girl gender
Vast majority of Indians still discriminate girl child, This happens in India only, All these self style Sanghi organisations instead of glorifying their own culture should fight against this age-old born evil superstitions

@Jossey S.Mumbai,Jossey all are not so strong to answer the world ,to fight against the husband over his discrimination.I dont mean this particular pperson.Women fall in post delivery depression and many dont recover from it.Here this must be the case because she had already two girls, and here and there everyone must have wished her third boy,nad who knows husband too was wishing it.She could have atleast let the girls back. She killed her own three children and herself.Otherside I really doubt about she herslf did this, whether children didnt resist jumping into well?God knows.May God forgive her and their souls rest in peace.

One can imagine the torture and social pressure she went through for giving birth to only girls. It is easy to judge and condemn her for taking her babies along. But may be she did not want her girls to go through the same torture which she went through.
After all ours is a great culture where women are taught to worship husband as God, serve him like a slave, endure all ill treatment , and not long ago , they had to be burnt alive along with the body of her dead husband. A sick society indeed.

We must remember (specially girls) that if my mother, a girl, not given me birth or destroyed me because I am a girl, then I wouldn't have been existed. Girl is the one who brings new life. DO NOT KILL GIRL. Both boy & girl are the important aspects of the plan of God's creation. Long live life both male & female. Thank you and God bless each and every one of us.

What a crazy woman.. there are so many childless couple who are longing for a child and this lady was blessed thrice and still ends her life along with that of her children. AShe had no rights to kill the children and suicide itself is a big sin.She should have atleast kept those children for adoption

At least she should have handed over childrens to childless couple. .they might be happy. What right to mother to kill her childrens. If she frustrated in life let her jump alone. It looks like to teach a lesson to husband and there family members.
Birth and death is in the hands of god..wohi sutradaar..what is in mind..!!

Adoption is such a tedious procedure in India. I feel pity for her death. She has achieved nothing by killing herself or her innocent children for that matter.

But then may be she felt what good will she be doing by letting them live in this cruel world and how would they survive without their mother? Teaching a lesson to the Husband and his family? Coming to the husband, he may mourn for some months or a year. Eventually he will remarry with his wish or through family pressures. If not, parents of other girls, finding him to be a prospective bridegroom, will pursue him till he relents.
