Poll candidates must disclose source of income: SC

New Delhi, Feb 16 (IANS): The Supreme Court on Friday directed that all candidates contesting elections must disclose their "sources" of income, including those of their spouse and dependent children.

In a landmark judgement, a bench headed by Justice J. Chelameswar said the candidate has to disclose his, his wife's and dependent children's source of income when they file nomination for elections.

The court verdict came on a petition filed by NGO, Lok Prahari, which has sought the inclusion of a column in the nomination form seeking details of income sources.

The petitioner has claimed that the candidates, while filing their nomination papers were disclosing their assets, assets of their spouse, children and other dependents, but they were not revealing the sources of income.

As per the law, at present a candidate is required to disclose details of assets and liabilities for themselves, spouse and three dependents while filing nomination paper but not their source of income.

Earlier, during the hearing of the case the apex court had criticised the government for not investigating the huge increase in assets, by up to 500 per cent, of politicians from what they show at the time of nomination.

The Election Commission had also told the top court in January that it must be made mandatory for the candidates to disclose their sources of income along with that of their spouse and dependents at the time of filing nomination to bring transparency in the election process.

Honorable Supreme court of India, if candidate found in is his declaration fraudulent in the affidavit deemed 'disqualified' for the entire tenure?
Secondly, Who and how does declaration to the affidavit is verified and audited in the 'Election commision of India'?

This something NGO, Lok Prahari and Association of Democratic Rights need to petition to Supreme Court and challenge.

If fake and fraudulent declaration still cling to our democratic system, there is no point of fighting against corruption.

I would also ask Supreme Court of India to consider 'life time ban' for those fraudulent declarations.

"She is one of the Richest lady in the word
    Let me know how...............................................?"
Why Sonia Gandhhi alone ? She has a SIL, both widows of two brothers whose ancestral wealth goes back since Motilal Nehru a Lawyer of early 1900. Sonia's current double income I told you from where she gets. Now, you find out how her SIL Maneka Gandhi has 40 Crores assets. Did this come from her father, or she too inherited from her husband's family ?

    What about Deccan Herald ..........................?
Why you asking me ? Has Subbu taken 'Maun-vrath' ?? Why Sonia and associates not in the jail as he declared mission to be accomplished ?

Problem is same that you feel when NaMo, LaMo and NiMo are judged by same yardstick because they are all M's.

'Italian' is shed in 1968 upon her marriage to Indian PM's son but you still drag her to her maternal nationality.
