About Indian Kaleidoscope

"India and the United Arab Emirates are connected in myriad ways. The trade between the west coast of India and the Gulf has a glorious history and dates back to centuries. Both countries share common values of universal brotherhood and it has been reaffirmed on numerous occasions. The open and welcoming culture of the UAE, have attracted people from all over the world. It has embraced entrepreneurial contribution from across the world, granting an enabling environment to everyone who touches its soil.

"The Emirates, with its melting pot of culture, has become an important converging point for cultural interaction. With vast number of Indian expats spread across different spheres, the UAE is also home for many things, Indian.

The Indian Kaleidoscope - exhibition of paintings, is a tribute to the deep understanding both countries share. It is felicitation to those who have made it big on the soil of Emirates. Ever welcoming nature of the rulers of UAE has made it an important destination for cultural exchange.

"The coastal city of Mangaluru on the west coast of India, is in the forefront of education business, banking and industry. It is where, Gallerie Orchid has been functioning for the last ten years. In terms of reach, this exhibition is a big leap touching connoisseurs of art in the Emirates.

"The exhibition at The India Club, in Dubai will put in touch with art lovers, art patrons, art connoisseurs in the Emirates, giving them an opportunity to see works of Indian artists.

"Featured in this exhibition is a mix of nationally known masters starting from M F Hussein, who spearheaded India’s march into modernism, Shanthram Hattarki, Ramesh Pachpande, Philip D Mello, Devi Prasad Rao, Ramesh Rao and promising names like, Jeevan A S, Wilson Souza, Sharath and Pradeep D M who have more than made a mark on the art space. A carefully selected art work, needless to say, is a treasure that surpasses generations, an indelible record of time at which it is produced and brings perpetual value to its owner and surroundings. Presenting this opinion on art, I am compelled to borrow from the lines of the toast raised by Giselle Mehta on the occasion of Gallerie Orchid’s 50th show, 'Owning a fancy car is still related to its utility, while a painting proclaims the fine instincts of a cultured connoisseur'.

A work of art stands better chance of value than a piece of automobile or anything that is perceived as valuable. I do hope that the collection at the Indian Kaleidoscope is a befitting tribute to positivity the Emirates exudes and a salutation to the vibrancy it evokes on whoever made it their home," says curator and director of Gallerie Orchid, William Pais.
