Sullia, Feb 14: A six-year-old girl was crushed under the wheels of the school bus in which she had arrived near her home on Monday February 12. The girl was later admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru where she breathed her last on Tuesday.
The victim was Agneya Balu (6), daughter of Appakunhi from Kulchar in Aranthodu village. She was a first standard student of KVG school.
The tragic accident happened at around 4.30 pm when the girl was returning home after school hours at Biliyaru.
It is said that as soon as she got down from the bus, the girl remembered that she had left behind her lunch box inside the bus. She asked her classmates seated inside the bus to hand over the box to her. Someone tried to give her the box hurriedly before the bus moved ahead. When the girl extended here hand into the bus and was trying to collect the lunch box, Dhananjay, who was the driver of the bus, moved the bus, unaware that the girl was engaged in collecting her lunch box. The girl lost her balance, fell down, and came under the wheels of the bus. She suffered critical injuries as a result.
It is said that the absence of conductor in the single-door bus was responsible for this gory accident.
The injured girl was immediately taken to a private hospital at Sullia. From there, she was shifted to a private hospital at Mangaluru as she was in need of advanced care. However, the doctors could not save her life, and she died on Tuesday.
