'Ramrajya Rathyatra' begins from Ayodhya, saints take pledge for Ram Temple

Lucknow, Feb 13 (DHNS): Amid chanting of 'Jai Shriram' and pledge by the saints and BJP leaders to build a grand Ram Temple, the 'Ramrajya Rathyatra' was flagged from Ayodhya on Tuesday.

According to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) from whose headquarters it was flagged off by its international general secretary Champat Rai, the 41-day long 'yatra' would pass through six states, including the poll-bound Karnataka, and end at Rameshwaram.

Scores of saints and BJP leaders, including the party's local Lok Sabha member Lallu Singh, were present at the ceremony. All of them took a pledge to build a grand Ram Temple at Ayodhya.

VHP leaders said that the 'Rathyatra' would travel through Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala besides UP.

Although the VHP had claimed that Adityanath would be flagging off the 'yatra', the latter, who was busy campaigning for BJP in Tripura, chose to stay away from the event.

While the opposition parties alleged that it was an attempt by the BJP to ''consolidate'' Hindu votes ahead of 2019 Parliamentary elections, the saffron party rejected the charges and claimed that it was organised by a private entity.

''The objective is to mobilise public opinion for Ram Temple construction....people will be made to take the pledge for the same...we aim to collect over a million signature also for this purpose,'' said a VHP leader in Ayodhya.

Earlier senior BJP leader L.K.Advani had also embarked on a 'Rathyatra' in 1990 for a similar purpose. The 'yatra' was stopped in Bihar by the then chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, and Advani was arrested.

The 'Ramrajya Rathyatra' assumes significance as it comes close on the heels of the arrival of truckloads of red stones from Rajasthan to be used for Ram Temple construction.

The VHP has been demanding enactment of a law through a Parliamentary legislation on the lines of Somnath Temple in Gujarat for Ram Temple at Ayodhya.

Every Bhakta must build Mandir in his/her mind and heart first and then only he/she build a Mandir in his/her hands. Religion minus Politics is pure religion. Religion and Politics are poles apart. By mix-up of both that ruins the Religion and distorts Politics.

For Ram sake please don't insult and redicule Hindus and Hindu religion. What you are doing is completely against Hindutva and Ram.

With little time to fire up the economy before the next general election, the runling party pitch will grow increasingly communal.
Since taking power, the BJP has kept the Hindutva pot boiling. The cow has occupied centre stage, with a spate of lynchings by vigilantes targeting Muslims. States ruled by the BJP in particular have done little to prevent such attacks; indeed, in most instances, criminal cases have been registered against the victims.
State elections too have been fought with communalism as the main plank of the BJP’s campaigns. In 2018, while the “development plus Hindutva” formula of 2014 still holds, the balance of the equation has changed. The BJP’s economic promises of 2014 were too bold. Far from the BJP government ushering in “achhe din”, or good times, as it had promised to do, little has changed materially for most Indians. If anything, things have become worse. The unemployment rate, for one, has risen after Modi took over from Manmohan Singh. Private investment is falling, which means few new jobs will be created in the near future.
Add to this demonetisation and the Goods and Services Tax – both disruptive measures that have harmed vast swathes of the population – and it is easy to see why an economic pitch for 2019 would be a tough sell.
The BJP faces a growing difficultly of credibly selling development and has little time to crank up the economy before the next election. India should brace for even more communalism from its ruling establishment as it heads to the polls.
Not coincidentally, the yatra has set off just days ahead of the Supreme Court begins regular hearing in the title suit of the Babri Masji-Ram Janmabhoomi case.
Season two of 'Ram rajya Rath Yatra of BJP is nothing but cranking up the hate machine for 2019 traveling through six states including poll-bound Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, and Kerala – the state where BJP has been struggling to strengthen its place.
