Mangaluru, Jan 25: Ullal police on Thursday January 25 busted an inter-state network of cattle thieves and arrested two persons in this connection. They also rescued twenty buffaloes and seized the lorry used by the accused to transport the cattle.
The arrested are Diwakaran Nair (47), a resident of Cherkala in Kerala and Thainul Abidin (33), a resident of Thekkil.
Ullal police who received definite information that cattle were being transported in a large lorry in a inhuman manner, intercepted the vehicle near Kotekar check post in the wee hours of Thursday and took the custody of the animals and the lorry.
The accused were transporting cattle at night without documents. It is suspected that the thieves had stolen the cattle from villages in Solapur. The accused were produced in the court.
The value of the seized lorry is estimated at Rs 15 lac and the cattle Rs four lac. Rs 11,000 in cash was also seized from the accused.
