Mangaluru: Kannada, Tulu activists at loggerheads over Karnataka bandh

Mangaluru, Jan 25: Activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) and Tulunada Rakshana Vedike (TRV) had an altercation at Central railway station when the former staged ‘Rail Roko’ protest regarding Mahadayi River water dispute on Thursday, January 25.

KRV activists, who were leaving the station after the protest, were confronted by TRV activists. They argued over the fact that a leader from KRV had posted derogatory comments on Facebook on Tuluvas.

Activists of TRV wanted to know how KRV could protest regarding Mahadayi River in the Tulu speaking district when one of their own leaders had posted derogatory comments on Tulu language. Condemning KRV for not supporting TRV’s fight against Yettinahole project, they said that they would not support bandh declared over Mahadayi river issue.

Earlier, KRV district president Anil Das and other activists blocked Mangalore-Coimbatore railway route and demanded the immediate intervention of the central government to resolve dispute over Mahadayi.

KRV Taluk president Madhusoodan, Arun, Srinivasa Gowda, Jaleel Mudipu, women unit’s Srilatha Salian and others were present.

    One finds a similarity if one language bullies the other.

    Goa chose not to merge and retained its Konkani Identity. It got statehood and its language recognition by Sahitya Akademi in 1992. Marathis all this while calling it a Dialect Gomantak Boli had to keep mum.


    Kannadigas before calling Tulu a Kannada dialect should not do this mistake. Tulu is an independent language with its own script Tigalari. Coastalwood is shinning better than Sandalwood.

    Keep calm Bave, Nanke Union Govt will take call. So many years 76 years of struggle will pay off. People voice is always heard. India is a Democracy.

    Although a Karwari(Konkani) settled in Mumbai and not a Tuluva .I empathize with Tulu sentiments in Tulunad,Mumbai & Dubay. Tulu is such a rich language; the 5 th Dravidian Tongue and it deserves the respect it needs. Kannadigas shamelessy go about with their chauvinist activities like beating people during bandhs,flags and state anthem. When Aishwirya Rai became Brand Ambasadress Kannadigas murmures she was Tuluva(Shivalli Brahmin) now their activist insults us. Since 1942 hey are doing this injustice. Netravathi diversion for Yettinahole project for Chikballapur & Kolar. Udupi not renamed ODIPU But, Mangaluru renamed in hurry in Kannada instead of Kudla. Endosulfan and other polluting factoriea. Bajape Airport. We,Karwaris alongwith Kodavas and Tulu brothers should stop Kannadiga hegemony.

    Bandhs will not solve any problem. Very good job by Tulu organizations to lodge a police complaint against a member of an organization who had posted derogatory comments on Tulu language and people. Who is going to lodge a police complaint against Tulu Facebook pages which post bad posts and comments against kannadigas all day long? The elected representatives of Tulunadu of all parties don't seem to raise a voice against Ettinahole project yet people elect the same representatives again and again. Political parties are using the Rakshana Vedikes for their divisive agendas between Kannadigas and Tuluvas. There are bad elements among Tuluvas and Kannadigas too. Many sane kannadigas had supported Kambala and #TuluTo8thSchedule twitter campaign. The current Total Fertility Rate(TFR) of Dakshina Kannada is 1.5 and Udupi is 1.2 - the replacement level is 2.1. So Tulunadu separate state will be a demographic disaster. Already Kasargod has been completely taken over by Malayalis and we can see them in big numbers in Dakshina Kannada too. Tuluvas need to unite and work to get added Tulu as the official language of Karnataka, Tulu language planning, Tulu medium education, building science and technology in Tulu language and getting consumer rights in Tulu - for this demanding Tulu to be added to the 8th schedule immediately is important.

    Yes tulu rakshana vedike did the right thing by going against KARAVE. When the people of DK fight for their their lifeline Netravathi river no other parts of Karnataka seems to be interested. It's high time for tulunadu state. We should oppose the ultra mega projects like yethinahole which is harmful to our Mangalore. Hope this yethinahole project will stop before it makes Mangalore suffer for water. Jai tulunadu

    Both are opportunists and useless, they achieved nothing other than some media space !! Both are fit for amassing wealth using public issues while they have no intention to solve nor support good cause. Intention is to destruct and derive mileage only! When people ignore all those on street....handful people will bark, get tired and collect their daily wage and vanish.....eventually such groups including BD, HJV, SRS, KFD, PFI cease to exist due to lack of support! I wish people start ignoring such groups ( a nuisance and non sense) right away !!!! People of DK should define rules by discarding all such groups! When they are ignored....media too will start focusing on development issues!

    Even somebody sneezes they will call for a bundh ,nowhere around the world they have these many bundhs .why disrupt the public .if they need to protest do it front of DC office or circuit house or a ministers office ,the vidhana soudha , Nehru Maidan etc .Bundh means economic diruption , and that leads to increased unemployment.Hope this vedikes and the political parties who back them get some enlightenment..

    One of so called KRV ( Jhon Karave) activist used cheap words against TULUVA people because of which not even single Tuluva supported' K'ta band today even after having support for Mahaday water issue.these so called KRV people don't even have the manners to respect others language. Nobody have a guts to bandh tulunadu without permission of Tulunadu people. ( mokul onji goodangadi band maltd tojavad kudlad) These so called KRV people were speechless when Manglore people were protesting against yettinahole protest.

    Water is essential for survival and fore every one including animals and tree. Calling bundh will not serve the purpose.. During Yethina Hole agitation we have seen stupidity of our politicians. So instead of bundh - hold gherao infront of concerned MLA/Minister in charge in front of his house. This KRV and TRV should hold protest jointly in Bangalore instead in Mangalore.. Some issues are concerned locally and particular area.. eg: Fishermen problem is for coastal areas and nothing to do with Mysore or Shimoga...
