The incident, which happened in Farhatabad village in the district, came to light after several days. The murdered woman was Bhagyashree (25), wife of Sharanabasappa from Avaralli village in Afzalpura taluk of the district. She was murdered on January 18.

It is learnt that Siddappa, a relative of Sharanabasappa, had purposefully hit his three-wheeler against the pet dog of Bhagyashree and injured it.
