Report that Trump allegedly imitated Modi's accent sets Twitter aflutter

By Arul Louis

New York, Jan 23 (IANS): A Washington Post report that US President Donald Trump imitated the accent of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a private conversation about Afghanistan has set Twitter aflutter.

Someone identified as "Professor Qa @MuslimDiasporas," tweeted that it was "racist impressions of Indian accent" and "Sagar Keer @sagark1985" tweeted: "I wonder what the bhakts will think about Trump imitating Modi's accent."

And dozens of tweeters posted the extract from the Washington Post or commented on it.

The Hill, an influential Internet publication specialising in politics, likened the alleged incident to Trump using a word for excrement to refer to African countries and Haiti as claimed by a Democratic Party leader, Senator Dick Durbin.

However, Hillary Clinton, the Democrat who ran against Trump, has publicly dishonoured Mahatma Gandhi with her stereotype of Indian Americans, saying "He (Gandhi) ran a gas station down in St. Louis."

Some gas stations in the US are run by Indian, leading to one of the derogatory steretypes.

The alleged use of the Indian accent by Trump was buried in a report on Afghanistan in the Washington Post, which is owned by the Amazon billionaire, Jeff Bezos, the richest man in the US.

The story about the US considering adding 1,000 more troops in Afghanistan had a very brief mention of the incident attributed to unnamed sources as an example of Trump justifying Washington's role in Afghanistan.

"Senior administration officials said that the President has been known to affect an Indian accent and imitate Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who in an Oval Office meeting last year told him, 'Never has a country given so much away for so little in return' as the United States in Afghanistan," the report said.

"To Trump, Modi's statement was proof that the rest of the world viewed the United States as being duped and taken advantage of in Afghanistan, these officials said," according to the newspaper.

From the above mentioned twitter handle its clear. Everyone makes a bit of fun of others in private. Its nothing new or surprising. Because Trump has had a history of such gaffes, he is in the limelight.

All the world leaders know that Trump is prone to unpredictable behaviour from time to time so such stories are going to get reported at regular intervals. I know all here are anti POTUS and Indian PM just because they take action against 'peace lovers' their direct /indirect support or terrorist acts. Having said that the PM is not a fool. He can make out the intentions either whenever he is flattered or imitated or ridiculed. That's why he is there where he is today. None has gifted that post to him nor he inherited it. Defeat him if you can.

Defeat him? That almost sounds like Ali's 'Catch me if you can'. On a serious note, unless and until EVM magic is replaced by ballot paper that still prevails in many developed countries, we are stuck with him.

..same like MODI, from day one TRUMP is fighting biased media, he exposed mainstream media on their twisted fake news..recently he even announced worst fake media award to NYT, ABC, WASHNIGTON POST etc, ..its not new thing to imitate any one, but spreading biased/ negative news by the National media on each & everything is new phenomenon..by the way, let us not forget that OBAMA has spied on freindly German & France president and caught red handed which shocked world..
