Mangaluru, Jan 22: Members of general public in Dakshina Kannada district, in general, are unhappy about the transfer of superintendent of police, Sudheer Kumar Reddy, who was identified as no-nonsense, efficient and strict police officer within six months of his taking over charge of the district.
Reddy, a young and ebullient police officer, had come to the district when the situation was volatile on account of communal disturbances. He had efficiently handled the situation arising out of the murder of Sharath Madiwala at B C Road which happened soon after he took charge of the district.
People have been expressing themselves strongly against the transfer of Reddy through various modes including social websites. Reddy, who came here from Mandya, proved within days that he can handle any eventuality through proper planning and bold moves. He took serious view of false reporting and filed cases against media persons coming out with false reports and rumour mongers. He also acted against some influential leaders based on CCTV footage during the funeral procession of Sharath Madiwala. He also took upon sand lobby and registered cases against many among them. When necessary, he also acted against employees of his own department.

Reddy refused to react to his transfer, adding that the new SP will come here and take charge after movement order is issued. District in-charge minister, Ramanath Rai, said that this was a normal transfer and there is no need to assume anything else. State home minister, Ramalinga Reddy, said that Reddy had to be transferred as Ravikanthe Gowda, SP of Belagavi, had completed full term of three years there and hence he had to be shown a place of posting. He noted that Reddy is going to a much bigger district having 18 assembly constituencies as against four earlier. Minister, Khader, felt that this might be a normal transfer, duly pointing out that most part of his constituency is covered by city commissionerate.
