Mangaluru: Catholic Sabha mega convention in March, women achievers to be honoured

Mangaluru, Jan 21: Catholic Sabha of the diocese of Mangalore has come forward, for the first time, to organize a ‘Mega Convention of the Canara Catholic Women’ on the occasion of International Women’s Day at St Agnes Special School Grounds, Bendore, on Sunday, March 4.

During the Convention, 10 women achievers of the Catholic community will be honoured with the ‘Catholic Sabha Sthree Sadhan Award 2018’

The categories chosen for the honour are: Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, Health, Social Service,Education, Literature and Fine Arts,Government Service (Civil Service and Administration),Sports, Differentially Abled and Professionals.

Unlike the traditional method of selecting from the mainstream, these awards will be conferred on those who hail from the grassroots and have climbed up the hard way.

The award shall comprise of a shawl, cash prize, fruits and flowers and a memento. These awards will be named after prominent Catholic women who have rendered yeomen service to the society.

Salient Features

1. There will be 10 categories of Awards and only Catholic women from the Dioceses of Udupi and South Canara may be nominated or apply for the Awards. Both, women and institutions run and managed by women will be considered for Awards.
2. The nominees/applicants shall be those who are based locally and their area of function/work in the local community.
3. The nominees/applicants from the marginalized sections of the society and those who have achieved success in the face of difficulties & hardships will have an advantage.
4. The nominees/applicants presently involved in their respective call will be preferred.
5. The nominees/applicants shall be those who have influenced and brought about positive change in the society through their works.
6. Those from the rural area and those working in rural areas will have an advantage.
7. No member of the Organising Committee or Jury may be nominated or apply for these Awards.
8. Those women who have not received any other prestigious awards from the society/community will be preferred.
9. Decision of the Organizing Committee is final and binding in all matters.

Nomination Process

The nominations to these awards shall be sent to the Catholic Sabha Central Council Office, Bishops House, Kodialbail PO, Mangalore 575 003 by 15-02-2018.

The nominations may be forwarded by the Catholic Sabha local units, Parish Pastoral Councils, Parish Priests, Vice Presidents and Secretaries of the Parish Pastoral Council, any organization of the community and/or individual Catholics of the diocese of Mangalore and Udupi.

Nominations should include details like Bio-Data, Photos, documents and certificates/testimonials, if any, regarding their service/work, etc, recommendation letter by the individuals/ persons nominating and any other related document.

Verification

Nominations will be scrutinised by the Jury appointed for the said purpose. The Jury, after thorough study of the documents, as well as spot inspections, will make a list of three probable reciepients, in order of precedence and will submit the list to the Award Committee. The Award Committee, after detailed verification, will select the recipient of each Award.

Area specified for the awards

1. Agriculture : Basic agriculture, animal husbandry, apiculture (bee keeping), horticulture, floriculture, aquaculture, sericulture, commercial crops, agriculture labour, etc.

2. Entrepreneurship : Home industry, local industry, micro and small industry, hotel and hospitality, tourism, pharmaceuticals, drugs and medicines, tailoring, cloth and textiles, conventional and traditional occupations, vegetables-fruits and flower vending, cottage industry, etc.

3. Health : Traditional and conventional medicine, nursing, homeopathy-allopathy and other schools of modern medicine, Ayurveda and Unani, dentistry, midwifery, para-medical and physiotherapy, etc.

4. Social Service : Social work, social service, social empowerment, individuals and institutions working for women empowerment, human rights and justice, those working for gender justice and gender sensitization, etc.

5 Education : Teachers and educators belonging to all categories starting from Anganavadi, non-conventional literacy workers, involved in street children education, informal literacy teachers, women education, etc.

6. Literature and Fine Arts : Literary personae working in all genre, irrespective of language, folk art and literature, cinema-dance-drama and other artistic representations, oral literature and other non conventional art, music, etc.

7. Government Service (Civil Service and Administration): Persons of all ranks serving in the government, both, state and central, local bodies, etc, shall be considered for the Award. Person who has motivated her wards to enter civil service or women who have encouraged, worked for the entry of youngsters in the civil service, trainers, etc.

8. Sports: Winner/participant in state/National/International level sports events, organizers of state/National/International level sports events, sports teachers, trainers, etc.

9. Differently Abled: Differently abled achiever, trainer of the differently abled, parent of differently abled, care giver to the differently abled.

10. Professionals: Architects, Engineers, Bankers, Auditors, Advocates, Journalists, Management Consultants, Designers and Fashion Designers, Management Level personnel, etc.
