Bengaluru: Siddaramaiah declines honorary doctorates from two universities

Bengaluru, Jan 20: Chief Minister (CM) Siddaramaiah has declined two separate honorary doctorate degree offers proposed by Bengaluru and Mysuru universities.

One of the syndicate members of Bengaluru University had sought Siddaramaih’s opinion about recommending his name for the honorary doctorate, to which the CM had not shown any interest.

 

 

Now a similar offer from the Mysuru University has also been turned down by Siddaramaiah, as per the information given by one of the syndicate members of the university.

    I have disagreed with the CM on most occasions, and in the coming elections I doubt voting for him, but if there is something I give him credit is he refused these worthless doctorates.

    Secondly, issuing doctorates out like candy, belittles the real doctorates that many have earned through hard work and determination.

    Well done CM. Now a days doctorates are issued to every Tom, Dick and Harry without any qualifications and they have no value now a days. Soon you will find everyone having a Honoarary Degree as they are cheap.

    ..its not good to decline Honorary Doctorate..for this Doctorate, education is not parameter..its given for excellence in their respective field..may be CM thought he is not eligible since he most of time spent how to cling on Chair..when he can accept HUBLOT watch worth crores, but declines a Honorary Doctorate looks like political drama

    First there were Engineering Degrees that were held in great esteem during the post independence days. Then began the capitation scheme, that diluted the importance of these degrees. Even post-graduation degrees met the same fate. And then began the process of diluting PhD by conferring these "honorary" doctorates.
