Chikkamagaluru: Complaint filed against BJP MLA C T Ravi for tweeting fake news

Daijiworld Media Network - Chikkamagaluru (SP)

Chikkamagaluru, Jan 19: Congress leader and state convener of Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Raj organization, Sandeep, has complained to senior police officers against local MLA, C T Ravi. He has accused Ravi of issuing inciting statements in social media with the aim of disturbing peace in the society.

Sandeep, accompanied by some of his supporters and Congress office bearers, met assistant superintendent of police, Jagadish, and handed over the complaint. He accused former minister and current MLA, C T Ravi, of spreading fake news which have the potential of disturbing peace in the society through social media website, Twitter. He said that because of this action of Ravi, peace and tranquility of the people have been disturbed.

In the complaint, Sandeep has mentioned that Praveen Poojary from Mangaluru, Karthik Raj, Magali Ravi, Madikeri Raju, Yogesh Gowda, Kittaganahalli Vasu, Harish Bantwal etc were murdered for various reasons and the police have filed charge sheets against the accused. Ravi, with the aim of reaping political benefits at a time when election is nearing, in the name of unity and protection of Hindus by giving rise to communal clashes, has been spreading false information through Twitter, he has alleged.

    As explained in the Twitter Rules,
    Hateful conduct: You may not promote violence against or directly attack or threaten other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or disease. We also do not allow accounts whose primary purpose is inciting harm towards others on the basis of these categories.
    Examples of what we do not tolerate includes, but is not limited to behavior that harasses individuals or groups of people with:
    violent threats;
    wishes for the physical harm, death, or disease of individuals or groups;
    references to mass murder, violent events, or specific means of violence in which/with which such groups have been the primary targets or victims;
    behavior that incites fear about a protected group;
    repeated and/or or non-consensual slurs, epithets, racist and sexist tropes, or other content that degrades someone.
    Dear @twitterindia, If this doesn't violate your abusive content rules, what does?
    How many more heads does need to "Twitter" to suspend accounts of this elected representative which made social media platform for abuse?
    Jai Hind

    It has been observed that these BJP guys are bending over backwards to carry out the instructions of their boss and to please him. It is a question of survival for them. One after the other we find these fellows trying to be aggressive and violent. By hook or by crook, they want to gain power. How they achieve it, Amit Shah is not worried. He just wants results. He seems to be following the dictum, all is fair in love and war. Murder, spreading fake news, inciting communal disturbance, bike rally - anything will do. But he wants the BJP to win.

    Rumour-mongering has always been around but an organised, US-style fake news explosion on social media has come to India.
    In India, spreading fake news, often of the poisonous hate creating variety, has now become common in elections. It is a minimal responsibility for any government to control such dangerous trends. Instead, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and its members have become frontrunners in both producing and circulating false news content, misleading the public.
    PM Narendra Modi's internet presence and persona has made him the second most followed politician on Twitter. As a result, BJP and its supporters sometimes overstep their freedom to use the internet and share photos and news without confirming the sources.
    In July 2015 Modi drew criticism for inviting 150 social media supporters to his residence for a meet-and-greet, among them Twitter users who had used sexual slurs and levelled other abuse at women online.
    It was BJP National Digital Operations Centre (NDOC) that headed the ‘mission 272’ campaign which eventually earned Narendra Modi his prime ministerial berth. Sadhavi Khosla, who had volunteered for Modi’s campaign for nearly a year, came out with serious allegations that prime ministerial campaign of Narendra Modi used social media volunteers to push decisive messages about public figures perceived to be opposed to the views of BJP.
    In a book – “I Am a Troll: Inside the Secret World of the BJP’s Digital Army” written by Journalist Swati Chaturvedi, Sadhavi claimed that she was part of a team of social media online campaigners whom she identified later as a troll group targeting celebrities, political personalities, public figures and media journalists, who have views opposed to the BJP.Sadhvi left the group since she had aversions over the modus operandi of this group.
    Shobha,CT Ravi, Pratap Simha Twitter account became more active spreading the fake news. Honnavar, Vijayapura,Mangalore became victims.

    CT Ravi won election by inciting communal riots in his area. He along with Shoba and Nalaini are always involved in inciting communal violence to get votes for BJP. I am pleased that the police are doing something about this even at this late stage.
