Owaisi flays govt over Haj subsidy withdrawal

Hyderabad, Jan 17 (DHNS): Blaming the Modi government for selectively targeting Haj pilgrims and continuing with the appeasement of Hindus, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi slammed the prime minister over the decision to withdraw Haj subsidy.

"In this year's budget, Haj subsidy is only Rs 200 cr. As per the apex court's directions, it would have ended anyway. Why the BJP and RSS call this minority appeasement while several state governments are continuing with doles for Hindu pilgrimages," the AIMIM president asked.

"The Uttar Pradesh government is spending public money on making Ram statue. For 2014 Kumbh Mela, Rs 1,150 cr of public money has been spent, in 2016 Modi government allocated through cultural ministry Rs 100 cr for Simhastha Maha Kumbh Mela in Madhya Pradesh, the state government spent Rs 3,400 cr from its pocket, is this not appeasement," he charged.

He further said that the present Uttar Pradesh government has been giving Rs 800 crore for pilgrimage to Kashi, Mathura and Ayodhya under the rejuvenation and spirituality augmentation scheme.

"Yogi says that he would give Rs 1.5 lakh for Manasasarovar yatra, will they stop that. Even the Congress government in Karnataka is doling Rs 20,000 per head for Chardham yatra," he said.

We Christians got nothing but false accusations on "Conversations". We too have our Holy Lands & it is a life-time desire to visit them. Muslims Leaders fought for &they got it. Christian Leaders, not even Christian Ministers ever took-up this issue. Now its very late

It is WRONG to say that Indians are working outside India to avoid tax .... People have to look for outside jobs, because our country can not generate jobs and feed the public....

@das only a tiny per cent of indians sell their souls to work abroad to save taxes n abuse the country whose passport they hold. There is work available here for nationalists that's why majority of nationalists are happy to work in India and also pay tax from their small earnings and feed the others families and pay for their personal holy trips y don't u people working abroad ask for reservations there? now that gulf countries have started throwing out Indians like you where will u work ?

    Dear Shailu,

The local FD deposit rates are more than the NRI deposit rates....therefore, it is like balancing... locals get more interest and paying the tax on it... whereas NRIs get less interest . So no profit no loss for both... just don't vomit poison nonsense before you check the facts..

First of all the Hajj subsidy nothing but equivalent to a business policy by the government where a pilgrim is restricted/compelled to travel by Air India only and thereby the government getting huge profits by mass volume of pilgrims.

Similar to Big Bazar's Buy 2 get 1 offer to get the profits by increased sales volume. But Big Bazar calls it as an offer; not subsidy.

Anyone please inform me how other Hindu pilgrimages are subsidised? Are their travel fares subsidised or they get direct financial help?

Owaisi is absolutely right. BJP's policies are always anti minority; be it against Dalits or Muslims. They always have some hidden agenda in their every aaproach.

Owaisi didnt ask for favor of Haj Subsidy, but was questioning the dual face and step mother treatment of Central Government towards Minorities.

What these Saffron party used to cry towards Congress of minority appeasement (which didnt exisit), they are doing it now Hindu appeasement for their political mileage and permanent rule.

Transparency in governance and implementing the polices of governance is the hallmark of good governance. Any decision that is not people-friendly to greater number of people is an anti-people decision.

    @ Jossey,
Your statement is partially correct if you refer to South Indian Muslims; otherwise Muslims are poorest among poors in many other states.
Further, if someone is working overseas then he need not necessarily be wealthy.
