Mangaluru, Jan 16: District Congress staged a protest outside the DC’s office here on Tuesday, January 16, against BJP for making use of images of legendary heroes of Tulunadu, Koti and Chennaya, in their banner during a public programme at Puttur.

Addressing the protestors, district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai said, "Congress party has always worked to uplift the poor and backward classes. Many have benefited out of the schemes introduced by the state government. We condemn the act of BJP where they misused the images of Koti and Chennaya in their banner during a public programme in Puttur to gain political mileage. They have insulted the Billawa community,"

“Congress has helped the Billawa community which includes sanctioning funds for Narayana Guru Study chair, and construction of Deyi Baidathi medicinal garden at Padumane. The state government also approved the celebration of Narayana Guru Jayanti. Further BC Road Circle was named after Narayana Guru. The BJP has used the images of Koti and Chennaya for politics. They should be ashamed for such an act," he added.

“Harish Poojary and Ashraf were murdered and the lawyers who are representing the accused in both the cases are same, which indicates that these lawyers belong to the Sangh Parivar. The state government has undertaken several development works like the new DC office, renovation of Wenlock Hospital and Lady Goschen Hospital and initiated people-friendly schemes such as Ksheera Bhagya, Anna Bhagya and many more,” Rai said.

Replying to MP Nalin Kumar Kateel’s comment where he had said that Rai is known only for breaking coconuts for development works undertaken by the Central government, Rai said, “Nalin Kumar Kateel had become an MP during the UPA government. Without doing any work he has been labeled as the number one MP, then what about the credibility of other MPs? You should remember we only laid the foundation and inaugurated the development works in Bantwal constituency,” Rai concluded.

Chief whip of Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza said, "BJP is using religion for politics. They do not have any political principles and ideologies. It is shame that BJP is using images of Koti-Chennaya. Whenever a political party is registered under election commission, the party will declare that they will maintain secularism in the country as stated in the Constitution. The Election Commission has named BJP as a national party, but they are going against the rules by sticking to religious ideologies. BJP wants to come back to power only to instigate communalism and divide people on religious lines. BJP does not deserve to get registered in the election commission and we demand BJP to be deregistered,"

“The BJP is dreaming about gaining power in the state. BJP is ruling in the Centre and they have not fulfilled any assurance so far. All they know is to speak and play cheap politics. When Paresh Mesta died, his mother claimed that Paresh did not belong to any organisation or party. But MP Shobha Karandlaje glorified Paresh Mesta as BJP representative. They play politics even with a dead body,” Ivan added.

President of district Congress Harish Kumar said, "BJP is known for creating rift between religions and also for instigating communal violence. They misused Koti Chennaya’s images just to gain votes and to satisfy a particular community. We strongly condemn this,”

Mayor Kavita Sanil, Youth Congress president Mithun Rai, former president of district Congress Ibrahim Kodijaal and others were present.

BJP and Congress national parties should grant Tulunadu state before beautiful Tulu language gets endangered and later extinct. Both responsible for not doung anything.

Tulu deserves respect as 5th Dravidian Tongue. Never too late congress or bjp. People's blessing for saving a language.

There was a time when entire billawa, bunt , Mogaveera among other major) community ( by population voted Congress en-masse. Over the last decade this entire vote base has shifted towards BJP, so much so that they form the major grass root workers.
No matter what congress does, it is perceived that BJP is standing with the men of these community during the riots. In Corollary, its the men of these community that are arrested/killed in riots
Every step that Congress does to sensationalize this issue wouldn't help them.
Even if Rahul Gandhi were to do the following
    1. Maale ( Sabarimale) paadad,
    2. bodithinda kateel da aata gobbad
    3. oorda boothag kola/ agel balasad
    4. koragajjag quarter korad
Yes, Congress during Jannanna's times worked towards the upliftment of Billawas but that chapter is closed now. The GenNext from all these communities are fanboys of Modi's.
The permanent damage to congress vote bank in coastal districts is done.
Lastly, opinions on the comment section of this web portal doesn't dent the votebank one bit. This number is insignificant in the larger scheme of things. Wake up and smell the coffee.

Either it is congress or BJP they don't have right have to use any religions name and their religious leaders photo to garner few votes for their benefit.some one commented over here that whole billava community with bjp this time for the election.let him write his opinion not the community because he is not care taker of the community. our guru brahmshree narayan guru or koti chennayya were not the political leaders they were social reformer.today they were recognised in this world for their valuable sudarta.

What nonsense. So congress wants to claim ownership of Koti Chennaya and Narayana Guru??

Shame on Congress for doing this caste/ religion based politics. Koti Chennaya and Narayana Guru are known for their great contributions to the society. They belong to all communities and they should be celebrated by all.

in coastal K'ta Out of 12, 8 constituencies having Billava majority votes that is the reason for all this drama baji by CONG just to polarize billava votes. when there was a protest by BJP against insulting deity Deyi Baidethi by posting derogatory comments on FB, not an single person from CONG come front to hold a protest and now these people are scared of loosing major billava votes to BJP which actually going to happen in coming election.

Even one of CONG fellow Sanjiva K poojary bantwal taluk panchayat member from Congress used ' Gurunarayan Swamy' image banner while having congress program at bantwal with ramnath rai.
We condemn using any religious image banner by any party. But CONG will have to accept that time this Whole billava community from entire coastal K'ta will fully go with BJP wait and watch.

To billawa community how many seats are given for LOK SABA seats by BJP. Still, you are saying, the entire billawa community are with BJP.

It was Congress party has uplifted billawa community to a great extent.

Last 10 years how many billawa youths are behind bars and facing criminal cases due to religious polarization.
