Goa minister Palyekar stokes fresh controversy, says Karnataka habitual liar

Panaji, Jan 16 (PTI): Goa Water Resources Minister Vinod Palyekar today said neighbouring Karnataka was a "habitual liar" on the Mahadayi river case.

Earlier in the day, Karnataka Water Resources Minister M B Patil demanded an apology from Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar over alleged abusive words used by Palyekar against Kannadigas recently.

"If Karnataka minister feels that Goa and Goans are liars then it is they (Karnataka) who are habitual liars in Mahadayi case and their witnesses are exposed before Mahadayi Water Dispute Tribunal," Palyekar said.

"Goans don't have a habit of lying. I personally visited the site along with the team of our engineers. It was quite visible that work on the canal was on and we have collected the evidence which would be produced before the tribunal," the minister said.

Patil, who had visited the spot in the morning, had claimed that Goa's allegations were "false" and "baseless."

"Goa minister Vinod Palyekar who visited Kanakumbi had alleged that we have started work on the Kalsa-Banduri canal project. But that is false. What he has seen is signs of old work," Patil was quoted as saying by media reporters this morning.

Palyekar said Karnataka had been lying about the Mahadayi issue since July 2007.

"Karnataka's witnesses have been exposed by our Additional Solicitor General Atmaram Nadkarni before the tribunal," the minister said.

The hearing on Goa's arguments against Karnataka's proposed dams on the river will be heard by the tribunal in the first week of February.

Nadkarni had said Goa's case was essentially to challenge the construction of 12 dams by Karnataka on the Mahadayi river and also oppose Karnataka's proposal to divert Mahadayi waters to the Malaprabha reservoir.

Goa minister Palyekar language is unacceptable. This not the first time PM Modi's 'Good governance' leader used such abusive words. In the past PM Modi's Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti may have only just hit national headlines with her Ramzada versus Haramzada speech, but she had perfected the art of vitriolic public speaking during the fiery eighties, when the Ram temple issue changed the course of Indian politics.
The Karnataka government should file defamation suit against this minister under Section 294 of the Indian Penal Code Section 294 lays down the punishment for obscene acts or words in public.

Is this the culture of Sangh Parivar narutures in its shakaks to use foul language for fellow Indian citizen and ask other to chant 'Bharat Mata ki Jai'?
Do our Karnataka Rakshana Vedike have time apart from Sunny Leone, when 'Kannada Mate' childrens are being insulted?
Where is our Pro Kannada vatal nagaraj who was front runner in Cauvery dispute?

If Karnataka BJP thinks they are with Kannadigas they should at least codemend the Ministers language through press conference. This minister should offer unconditional apology or face the defamation suit.
Water is precious. Its God gits. It should be shared wisely.

This is what happens when there is a weak government in Goa who is in power by buying MLAs' and if they sack Palekar Goan government will come down. I dont hear the Goan CM who pretends to be an expert in everything saying anything now.
Imagine if BJP comes to power in Karnataka. It would be worse than this.

Lies and Smiles do not match the person. Better lessen the lies and then he could increase the smile. A person who is less known to the people of Karnataka is now known for his extreme expressions.

Well Mr. Minister, we don't lie through our noses like your bar people do. We are told that we are able to carry two bottles each with permits issued by your bars only to be confiscated at the border post.
The moment we step out if your casino's our money is stolen.
There is a lot more if I have to list them. But it is a shame as a responsible minister you stoop to such levels when you should speak at the government level and look for a amicable solution. You are trugerring hatred between the two people. Shows your standard.

The state of Goa surviving by the business of nudity and casino gambling. The minister has no idea of how the Goan economy breethes. Karnataka is an economic destination for lot of IT and science technology where we never need the business of nudity. Those who enjoy the oxygen of uncultured environment only can use such language like this Goan minister
