Mangaluru, Jan 15: A man who has married twice and is a father of three children, has allegedly married a Hubballi-origin Hindu girl. His wife who is struggling to look after her two children, has lodged a complaint of 'love Jihad' against her husband at Konaje police station accusing him of having 'converted' the Hindu girl in order to marry her.
Asif (35), Rantadka Boliar resident is the accused. He was employed as a lorry driver eighteen years ago and had fallen in love with Afsa, a resident of Inoli Bisait resident and married her. However Afsa came to know after her marriage that Asif had already been married and had a child. The first wife due to poverty did not file a legal case against Asif and instead was rolling beedies for her living. Asif also has a daughter and a son from Afsa.
As the children grew up, Asif deserted Afsa too and went to Hubballi looking for a job. Afsa who could not look after her children tried to locate Asif and came to know that he was in Hubballi. Asif did not respond to her attempts to contact him. Therefore, she complained about it to Konaje police station. When police there contacted him, he promised to give her Rs 2,000 for her expenses per month. But he has not paid any money for the last three years. He has not communicated with Afsa either. She was rolling beedies but the bank passbook and children’s scholarships are also in Asif's name. Therefore, life was difficult for her.
Afsa approaches women's rights group
Thereafter, Afsa's mother went to Inoli Navodaya Stree Sangha and Deepa Stree Shakthi Sangha requesting for help. The activists responded to the requests of the elderly woman and obtained information from relatives about the whereabouts of Asif. They came to know that Asif had married a Hindu woman in Hubballi and was staying in a rented house near Deralakatte. Accordingly, two members of the Sangha together with Afsa complained to Konaje police station against Asif.
Police have asked them to lodge a complaint in the court as it is a family matter. The case has become serious with allegations of love Jihad as Asif has married a Hindu girl.
