Mangaluru: Murder of Target Group's Ilyas - police continue with investigation

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jan 15: Investigation into the murder of Ilyas, a member of notorious Target Group, is continuing. It is learnt that the police have some leads about the murderers but no arrests have been made so far.

Three special teams were formed by city police commissioner, T R Suresh, to solve this case. While one of the teams is involved with investigation about Dawood and Safwan, the other has been looking into the activities of Target team members who are inside the district prison here. The third one is investigating the criminals linked to Target group.

The investigation teams have clues to strongly suggest involvement of Dawood or Safwan from Target group in this murder. If they are able to establish their involvement, accused might be arrested early.

It is said that four persons in two motor bikes had arrived at the apartment complex in which Ilyas lived. The police have questioned wife of Ilyas, Farzana, and other family members and gathered information. The police also have come to know that the mother of the person accused of attacking Urwa staiton police assistant sub-inspector at Ladyhill last year is the sister of Farzana's mother, Afsat. The police are also investigating the case from this angle too.

Deputy commissioners of police, Hanumantaraya and Uma Prashanth, assistant commissioners of police, Uday Nayak and Rama Rao, and Pandeshwar station police inspector, Belliappa, are leading the investigation.

In the meanwhile, an audio clip in which a person is heard vowing to settle scores with those who killed Ilyas, has become viral. The voice is heard saying that this was the handiwork of boys working for Ilyas and opining that the killers should be ashamed of attacking a sleeping person. The murderers can be heard warning that they would be killed like dogs and that they would not be spared.
